Nov. 5, 2014. After a decisive victory for local Republicans that saw the GOP retaining the majority on the Watauga County Board of Commissioners, seating two on the Watauga County Board of Education and electing N.C. Rep Jonathan Jordan and N.C. Sen. Dan Soucek to another term, Watauga County GOP Chair Anne-Marie Yates said she was “very pleased” with the outcome for two reasons.
Her entire response is below:
“First, the voters in Watauga County chose to continue the responsible leadership which has been provided by the Republican majority on the County Commission, school board and in Raleigh. While there was a lot of misinformation and negative campaigning by some, it is clear the voters saw through the clutter and evaluated our policies on the strength of our success.
“Second, I am pleased with the record high turnout for a non-presidential general election, especially in Watauga County. This election should put to rest all the nonsense of voter suppression being claimed by the liberal wing of the Democratic Party. I look forward to a return of civility in our government, and hope this clear statement from the voters will encourage everyone to work together for the good of our community.
“The hard work and dedication of many people helped us with this successful election.”
