Nov. 17, 2014. Watauga County Board of Elections held the 2014 general election canvass on Friday morning, and announced the official results. None of the end results – as far as who was elected to office – changed on the local level.

Elections officials made sure that the mail-in absentee ballots and provisional ballots were legitimate. Watauga County Elections Director Jane Ann Hodges said that all of the mail-in ballots were post-marked on time and only nine of the 35 provisional ballots were valid. Of the provisional ballots that were discarded, Hodges said most weren’t registered voters in the county.

Hodges also noted that local elections officials held a sample audit in the prior week of the Boone 1 and Blue Ridge precincts.

“Every thing was found to be correct,” Hodges said. “We are very proud of our machines.”

For the 2014 general election, 17,197 of the 45,749 registered voters participated in the process. In a letter to the editor, Hodges said she was disappointed in the turnout.

The final results, which only represent Watauga voters and not entire districts, are below. Note that statewide canvass won’t take place until Nov. 25.
