“Memorial Day is an opportunity for our nation to pause and honor the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice fighting to protect our country,” said Hagan. “We should all take a moment to remember those we have lost and thank the veterans and servicemembers in our own communities for their service. As a Senator from North Carolina, the most military friendly state in the nation, it is my job to ensure Washington is doing everything it can to support our men and women in uniform, veterans and military families. Our servicemembers and veterans are America’s true heroes, and they deserve our utmost gratitude not just today, but every day of the year.”

Hagan, who serves on the Senate Armed Services Committee and is a founding member of the Military Family Caucus, comes from a strong military family. Her father-in-law was a two-star Marine General; her brother and father served in the Navy; her husband, Chip, is a Vietnam veteran who used the GI Bill to help pay for law school; and she has two nephews who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
