Tim Wilson Withdraws From County Commissioner Race; Watauga County Republicans Seeking Replacement

By Paul T. Choate

March 23, 2012. BOONE — Danny Tim Wilson sent a letter to Jane Ann Hodges, director of the Watauga County Board of Elections, officially withdrawing from the County Commissioner election on Thursday, March 22. He cited “current personal circumstances” as his reason for withdrawing.

The withdrawal came two weeks after Wilson was arrested on Thursday, March 8, and charged with DWI, hit and run, carrying a concealed weapon after consuming alcohol and criminal damage to property.

The Watauga County Republican Party will now have to find a replacement candidate or Virginia Roseman, D-Boone, will run unopposed in the November election. According to Thomas Adams, vice chairman of the Watauga County Republican Party, multiple area Republicans have already shown interest in being the replacement candidate. Adams added that the party would likely decide on a candidate at their monthly meeting next Thursday, March 29, at 7:00 p.m.

According to Jane Ann Hodges, the party must find a replacement no later than 75 days prior to the general election in November. She added that she anticipates the replacement will be selected well before that.
