The Fall Rally will convene at 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 6, in the Main Dining Facility at Appalachian State University on Rivers Street. The ASU College Democrats are hosting and sponsoring the rally.

Free parking will be available in the Rivers Street Parking Deck, with easy access to the cafeteria via the elevated walkway over Rivers Street.

The Fall rally will also feature an auction of “Precinct Gift Baskets,” the induction of the 2013 honorees in the Watauga County Democratic Hall of Fame, musical entertainment, and speeches by 2013 municipal candidates.

Senator Josh Stein was first elected to the NC Senate from Dist. 16 in Wake County in 2008. After his reelection in 2010, his Democratic colleagues in the Senate elevated him to the office of Minority Whip.

The North Carolina Sustainable Energy Association and the AARP of North Carolina named Stein as their “Legislator of the Year.” The Metro Mayors’ Association, which represents the mayors of the 25 largest municipalities in the state, presented him with its “Legislative Award” for his work to promote public transit and transportation issues. The North Carolina Association of Educators named Stein as a “Rising Star” for his efforts to improve public education. He was honored by the Sierra Club as an “Environmental Champion” and by the Conservation Council in 2010 as a “Rising Star.” In 2011 the NC Justice Center named Stein as the 2011 “Defender of Justice.”

He is featured in dozens of YouTube videos, but his speech on the Senate floor during debate over new voting restrictions in North Carolina (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMZgQZwVgCM) has drawn particular notice and praise.
