By Jesse Wood

Oct. 31, 2014. Through Thursday, 6,300 early voters in Watauga County have made their way to the ballot box for the Nov. 1 general election, according to totals compiled by the Watauga County Board of Elections office.

Here’s the voter breakdown per early voting place:

  • Plemmons Student Union at ASU – 2,155
  • Watauga County Administration Building in downtown Boone – 2,932
  • Blowing Rock Town Hall – 402
  • Meat Camp VFD – 235
  • Deep Gap VFD – 242
  • Western Watauga Community Center – 364

Earlier this week, unaffiliateds and Democrats were beating registered Republicans to the polls. Now, however, Republicans have at least overtaken the independents. Through Thursday, 2,653 Democrats have voted early; 2,000 Republicans have voted early; 1,963 unaffiliateds have voted; and 40 Libertarians have early voted.

The political-affiliation breakdown comes from the online N.C. Vote Tracker, which is a project of the conservative Civitas Institute. Those figures include 320 mail-in ballots; seven overseas ballots; and one military ballot.

When adding the mail-ins, overseas, military and one-stop totals, more than 6,600 voters have voted so far. This places Watauga County 39th in terms of the most early voters in the 100 counties in the state.

Saturday is the last day of early voting.
