Rev. Marcia Cham Will Keynote Democratic County Convention at Courthouse, April 14 at 1 p.m.

April 2, 21012. BOONE — United Church of Christ minister and author Rev. Marcia Cham will deliver the keynote address, “Compassionate Politics: Oxymoron or not?” at the Watauga County Democratic Party 2012 County Convention on April 14. 

Convention delegates and guests will gather at noon for registration and potluck luncheon in the top floor lobby outside Courtroom #1. The Convention program will convene at 1:00 p.m. 

Rev. Cham is retired after serving as a pastor for 20 years. She is employed as an on-call Chaplain at the local hospital and is active in the High Country Writers. Cham published her first book, You Mean I Have to Look at the Body? Stories of Dying and Living, and is actively working on a second. She enjoys her three grown children, their spouses, and six grandchildren. 

Also on the Convention agenda will be speeches by 2012 candidates, including Elisabeth Motsinger, candidate for Congress from the 5th Dist.; Roy Carter, candidate for the NC Senate; Cullie Tarleton, candidate for the NC House; and candidates for County Commission and School Board.

Delegates will also be debating and voting on a number of resolutions dealing with independent redistricting commission, the 2011 behavior of the Republican majority in the NC General Assembly, Amendment 1, and other topics.
