Nov. 7, 2012. In a county where residents voted more than 74 percent for the Mitt Romney/Paul Ryan ticket, it’s not suprising that all three Republican Avery County Board of Commissioners candidates won.
Although incumbent Kenny Poteat came in third in the voting, he received 2,600 more votes than the lone Democrat in the race – Douglas Owen. Poteat has been on the Avery County Board of Commissioners since 1994 and has been the chairman of the board since 2000.
