Today Speaker Tim Moore (R-Cleveland) appointed Rep. Jonathan Jordan (R-Ashe, Watauga) and Rep. John Fraley (R-Iredell) to co-chair the important House Committee on Education on Universities. The appointments fill the chairmanship vacancies left by former Representatives Brian Brown and Bryan Holloway.
“North Carolina is home to some of the world’s best universities,” Speaker Moore stated. “And while we have much to be proud of, it is imperative that the State maintains a strong partnership with these institutions to help promote training that addresses our regional needs. I am confident that Rep. Jordan and Rep. Fraley, two business minded leaders, will collaborate well and lead this crucial effort.”
The Committee is charged with the essential task of developing legislation that affects the public and private universities housed in North Carolina including the UNC System, while also promoting quality higher education and developing a skilled workforce.
“With Appalachian State University being such a crucial part of House District 93, it is a distinct honor and privilege being named to head our House Education Committee on Universities,” stated Rep. Jordan. “I look forward to convening our committee to review important policies and proposals that can help our university system move forward to meet the needs of our students and our state.”
Rep. Jordan is in his third term in the North Carolina House.
“The University System is arguably the most prized asset of the state,” remarked Rep. Fraley. “I am honored to have the opportunity to work with my Co-Chair Representative Jordan, President Spellings, The Board of Governors, the system Chancellors and Legislative Liaisons, House colleagues and all other University stakeholders to enhance the performance and reputation of this great institution.”
Rep. Fraley is currently serving his first term in the North Carolina House.
