Oct. 22, 2014. Rev. William Barber, the leader of the Moral Monday movement in North Carolina and the N.C. NAACP president, will be in Boone on Wednesday morning for a “Moral March to the Polls” rally. The event takes place at the Jones House Community and Cultural Center at 11 a.m.

The stop in Boone is part of a event sponsored by the N.C. NAACP and the Forward Together Movement has leaders travel across the state in the next two weeks to mobilize voters.

In addition to Barber, Rev. Curtis E. Gatewood of the Watauga County NAACP, Ignite NC and the Forward Together Movement, will also speak.

Watauga NAACP, in a release, said that this event is being held because of the “passage of HB 589, a massive voter suppression bill, and the avalanche of extreme and immoral legislation that was passed during the 2013 and 2014 Legislative sessions, North Carolinians know now more than ever the importance of the vote.”
