Sept. 5, 2014. State Rep. Jonathan Jordan and challenger Sue Counts will hold a town hall meeting “akin” to a debate on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014, in the large courtroom of the Ashe County Courthouse. The forum starts at 7 p.m. and doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Freelance journalist Ron Fitzwater will serve as facilitator and moderator. A flyer of the debate notes that topics include “jobs and economic growth, education and funding reform, agriculture policy and land use, taxes and environmental protection.”
The event is sponsored by New River Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America, which “plans to revive the highly successful interest in Ashe County politics by holding a Town Hall in September, akin to the debate we sponsored in 2010,” according to a meeting notice on the group’s website.
The notice also states that Jordan and Counts will be available to “respond to members and guests about their respective campaigns leading up to the November elections.”
