May 21, 2012. Boone Mayor Loretta Clawson was selected as one of the women delegates for the 5th District in North Carolina for the Democratic Convention to be held in Charlotte on the first week in September.
She was selected after winning more than 50 percent of the vote in the first round. The 5th District consists of Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Davie, Stokes, Surry, Watauga, Wilkes, and Yadkin counties and parts of Forsyth, Iredell, and Rockingham.
Boone Town Council Member Andy Ball did not make the cut on the men’s side, which required at least a 50 percent of the vote in one of the selection rounds.
