Local Primary Results Hold Up After Canvass Tuesday

May 13, 2014. Staff and members of the Watauga County Board of Elections met early Tuesday for canvassing of the county elections results.

Director Jane Ann Hodges said none of the races were affected by the six provisional ballots counted and two pulled absentee ballots. Following the canvassing, the board signed abstracts and were awaiting the website of the State Board of Elections to accept the official primary results.

Watauga County Board of Education

The top six vote-getters will be on the ballot in the general election in November. Three seats on the Watauga County Board of Education are up for election.

Watauga County Board of Commissioners

The top vote-getter in each of the two district races of the Watauga County Board of Commissioners move on to face the Democratic challenger in the general election in November. Jimmy Hodges will face Democrat Barbara Kinsey for District 5, while Karen Lerch will face incumbent Commissioner Billy Kennedy for District 3.
