April 22, 2013. Below is the most recent letter between the Town of Boone and Watauga County with regards to the potential sale of the old Watauga High School property to Phil Templeton and the potential switch of sales tax distribution to an ad valorem basis. The Town of Boone would lose $2 million in revenues with the switch.
On April 19, Town Manager Greg Young replied to an April 18 letter from County Manager Deron Geouque stating that the Boone Town Council has come to a conclusion that a private mediation is the only method that would work. Young cited the “threats of litigation, the complexities of the issues and the various statements several commissioners have made” as being a “very complicated and sensitive legal matter.”
County commissioners have already stated that the board will only meet in open session. It looks like a stalemate ensues.
