Happy Friday from Senator Hagan’s press office, where the Senator wonders how the First Lady’s basketball game stacks up to her husband’s.

Senator Hagan joined First Lady Michelle Obama in Charlotte today for a Let’s Move! event during the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) basketball tournament. Hagan recognized the 100th anniversary of the CIAA and the conference’s importance to North Carolina. The state is home to eight of the 12 colleges in the conference.  Earlier this week in Washington, Hagan joined a group of her colleagues on the Senate floor to encourage Congress to move past the partisan gridlock of last year and work together for the American people. The bipartisan colloquy was focused on passing appropriations bills so that the government does not operate on short-term stopgap spending measures. Video of Hagan’s floor speech is available here.

As North Carolina submitted its application for a waiver from No Child Left Behind this week, Hagan called on the Senate to take up the long overdue fix of the flawed federal education law. Hagan serves on the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, which last October passed legislation to reform and improve No Child Left Behind. However, the bill has since stalled and failed to reach the Senate floor for consideration by the entire body.
