Nov. 21, 2013. U.S. Senator Kay Hagan, a member of the Senate Banking Committee, today released the following statement after the Committee voted to favorably report the nomination of Janet Yellen to be the Chairman of the Federal Reserve:

“As chairman of the Federal Reserve, Vice Chair Yellen will play an important role overseeing the Federal Reserve and will bring to the job substantial expertise on the causes and effects of unemployment. As North Carolina’s unemployment rate remains far too high and our economy continues to recover, Vice Chair Yellen’s impressive public sector and academic experience will make her a stable hand at the helm of our central bank.

“I’m pleased to join my colleagues on the Banking Committee from both sides of the aisle to support Vice Chair Yellen’s nomination, and I hope the full Senate confirms her as the first woman to head the Federal Reserve with broad bipartisan support in the coming weeks.”
