In a statement, Foxx said she already had “the best job in North Carolina” as the Representative for the state’s 5th Congressional District.

“The encouragement I’ve received to enter the race to become North Carolina’s next United States Senator is truly humbling,” Foxx said in the statement obtained by The Associated Press. “Representing the people of North Carolina’s 5th Congressional District while working to encourage job growth, repeal Obamacare, and return decision-making power in education back to our state is where my heart and focus lie.”

One person who is among Hagan’s challengers is Dr. Greg Brannon, who was described as a Christian, pro-life, pro-family, Tea Party, Constitutionally conservative Republican physician,” in a release from the Ashe County Republican Party touting his visit to the High Country in June.

“His conservative platform includes his pledge to defend the 2nd amendment, cut taxes, balance the budget, protect the union, repeal Obamacare and protect North Carolina’s sovereignty under the 10th amendment,” the release noted.
