Flame Throwing at Blowing Rock Candidate Forum During Mayoral Debate Between Phillips and Lawrence

By Jesse Wood

Oct. 23, 2013. The Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce hosted a “Candidate Forum” on Tuesday evening for those running for Blowing Rock Town Council and mayor of Blowing Rock.

All but incumbent Councilman Tommy Klutz attended; Klutz penned a letter to the editor here on why he didn’t participate.

As for the mayoral race, incumbent J.B. Lawrence and challenger Dan Phillips engaged in a bit of flame throwing. See the video of Phillips’ and Lawrence’s closing statement below. The video starts a hair after Lawrence begins. Lawrence begins by saying: “Why did our local elections get so contentious?”

Below is another video of Phillips and Lawrence answering this question from moderator John Marshall: “What are your concerns and visions for Blowing Rock’s future?”
