Film Crew for ‘The Rachel Maddow Show’ in Boone Wednesday, To Feature BOE Controversies Thursday

By Jesse Wood

Aug. 22, 2013. “The Rachel Maddow Show” will once again feature the controversies swirling around the Watauga County Board of Elections on Thursday, Aug. 22, at 9 p.m. ET.

imgres-1Liberal host Rachel Maddow will broadcast live from Elizabeth City, which is home to the historically black Elizabeth City State University, where the Pasquotank County Board of Elections barred a senior for running for city council, ruling that his campus address couldn’t be used to establish local residency.

Maddow is devoting the full-hour broadcast to “exploring North Carolina voting revisions signed into law last week” and that Thursday night’s show “will take a deeper look at how the new restrictions will affect students, African-Americans, and low-income voter participation in the state,” according to a press release from MSNBC.

Yesterday, Maddow sent a film crew to Watauga County.

According to Pam Williamson, a local political activist, interviews were conducted with members of the The Appalachian, ASU’s student newspaper, the ASU Student Government Association and ASU Democrat President Mollie Clawson.

She added that the film crew followed Clawson and interviewed her as she waited for an AppalCART bus. They rode it to the Poplar Grove bus stop and walked to the county’s Agriculture Conference Center, which is the location of the “super-precinct” – the combination of Boone 1, Boone 2 and Boone 3 precincts. Unlike last year, students won’t be able to vote on campus.

Her show has featured High Country Press during the past two weeks, including last night. See a snippet from last night’s show below.
