April 24, 2014. Thursday was the first day of early voting for the 2014 primary on May 6.

Watauga County Board of Elections Director Jane Ann Hodges said 316 people voted today. Hodges added that she was “impressed” at how many people voted in the Watauga County Administration Building in downtown Boone. See the Thursday totals for all the early voting sites below.

  • Watauga County Administration Building in downtown Boone: 248
  • Western Watauga Community Center in Sugar Grove: 15
  • Blowing Rock Town Hall: 29
  • Deep Gap Fire Department: 11
  • Meat Camp Department: 13

Early voting starts bright and early at 8 a.m. on Friday. See the times and locations for all the sites across the county. Also see sample ballots below, too.

Early voting ends Saturday, May 3. Registration has already closed and there is no longer same-day registration in North Carolina. Below are dates, times and locations of the early-voting sites for Watauga County and Avery County.

Early Voting Sites in Watauga

Watauga County Administration Building (beside courthouse):

  • Friday, April 25: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Monday, April 28, to Friday, May 2: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 3: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The following date and times are for the early-voting sites Western Watauga Community Center, Blowing Rock Town Hall, Deep Gap Fire Department and Meat Camp Department:

  • Friday, April 25: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Monday, April 28, to Friday, May 2: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 3: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Early-Voting Sites in Avery County

Avery County only has one early voting site and it is located at the elections’ office in the Avery County Courthouse in Newland. Following are the hours the elections’ office will be open for early voting:

  • Thursday, April 24, to Saturday, April 26: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Monday, April 28, to Tuesday, April 29: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Wednesday, April 30, to Friday, May 2: 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 3: 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
