March 9, 2012. BOONE — Danny Tim Wilson, 61, a candidate for Watauga County Board of Commissioners, was charged last night with driving while impaired, felony hit and run and multiple other charges.
Boone Police responded Thursday night to a report of two separate vehicle crashes near the ASU Holmes Convocation Center. Both crashes had apparently been caused by the same suspect vehicle, which had remained at the site of the second crash. A woman from the first crash was transported by ambulance to Watauga Medical Center with unknown injuries.
Wilson was subsequently charged by police with driving while impaired, felony hit and run, two counts of unsafe movement, and failure to notify a law enforcement officer of having a concealed weapon permit. Wilson was booked into the Watauga County Detention Center under a $1,000 secured bond with a May 15, 2012 court date.
An additional charge against Wilson for misdemeanor damage to property is anticipated. It is alleged Wilson damaged the equipment used to measure alcohol level by spitting into it.
