Billed as ‘Most Important Political Rally in County History,’ ASU Hosts Democratic Fall Rally on Saturday

Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton is running for governor.

Sept. 20, 2012. The Watauga County Democratic Party’s Fall Rally on Saturday, Sept. 22, is being billed as the “most important political rally in Watauga County history” by the Watauga County Democratic Party.

A slue of state-wide candidates are scheduled to attend: Current Lt. Governor Walter Dalton who is running for governor; N.C. Treasurer Janet Cowell; Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin, N.C. Auditor Beth Wood; and N.C. Supt. of Public Instruction June Atkinson.

Also on the slate are district candidates for N.C. House and Senate Cullie Tarleton and Roy Carter; local candidates for Watauga County Board of Commissioners Billy Kennedy, Virginia Roseman and John Welch; and Watauga County Board of Education Jay Fenwick, Barbara Kinsey and Brenda Reese.

The event will be held on the campus of ASU at the Central Dining Hall at 5 p.m. and starts with a barbecue chicken dinner. Tickets cost $10 and are available at the door or at the Watauga County Democratic Party headquarters on King Street in downtown Boone. Free parking is available at the Rivers Street parking deck, which is across the street from the dining hall.

The event will also feature formal presentations of the 2012 inductees into the Watauga County Democratic Party Hall of Fame. Nominations to the Hall of Fame are made on the basis of service to both the community at large as well as to the local party.

Local Democratic officers have received word that a film crew from the British Sky News will be on hand at the rally to film interviews for a documentary on grassroots American political activity during this election cycle.

Rally attendees may also expect another musical visit by the anonymous Sisters of Perpetual Sarcasm, who are known for hilarious satirical renderings of popular tunes.
