Sept. 22, 2014. On Tuesday, Sept. 23, Appalachian State University will be the setting for a National Voter Registration Day event, a NVRDcollaborative event between The Southern Coalition for Social Justice, Rock the Vote, NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina, IgniteNC and the Watauga County NAACP.

The event will include live music, voter registration, a “selfie” booth with Miss United States Elizabeth Safrit and a number of speakers who will speak about the importance of registering to vote and voting. Volunteers will be available to assist attendees with registering to vote and will hand out materials to educate the public on their voting rights. The entire event is free and open to the public.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. at Duck Pond Field on the campus of Appalachian State University. Live music will be provided by The Nude Party and Les Racquette.

“This is just one of the many National Voter Registration Day events going on all over the state,” said Shoshannah Sayers, Deputy Director of the Southern Coalition for Social Justice.

“The idea is to remind people that we are coming up on the deadline to register to vote in North Carolina and have one day where everyone is conscious of it. It is a place where people can come out, have a good time and learn about their voting rights.”
