Americans for Prosperity Applauds House On Moving Tax Reform Legislation To Floor For Debate

June 10, 2013. As tax reform in the Tar Heel state inches closer to a reality, Americans for Prosperity – North Carolina applauded the State House for passing House Bill 998 – Tax Simplification and Reduction Act – out of committee and on to the floor of the State House for debate.

According to a new analysis by the nonpartisan Tax Foundation, the House plan  would skyrocket North Carolina’s ranking on the Tax Foundation’s State Business Tax Climate Index from a low of 44th place to 19th best in the nation.

The Bill passed 72-32, and heads for final house passage early next week.

“The Tax Simplification and Reduction Act would provide $1.6 billion in tax relief to North Carolinians over five years and dramatically improve North Carolina’s tax competitiveness in our region of the country,” said Dallas Woodhouse, State Director of AFP-North Carolina.

Woodhouse continued, “Representative Lewis and the House  should be commended on their good work to reform our tax code.”

Two months ago, on April 16, Americans for Prosperity announced a $500,000 campaign to urge the passage of “bold tax reform” in North Carolina.  Since then, the group has held grassroots town hall-style meetings across the state, and also released a television ad touting conservative reforms at the General Assembly.
