Charles Edward Davis

Charles Edward Davis, D. Sept. 22, 2012
Charles Edward Davis, age 83 of 103 John Johns Road in Elk Park, died Saturday September 22, 2012 at Johnson City Medical Center.

Mr. Davis is survived by his wife Janice Marie Storie Davis of the home; three sons, Chuck Davis and wife Dena of Elk Park, Stephen Davis and wife Sandy of Nebo, NC, Michael Davis and wife Sonya of Elk Park, two daughters, Sharon Sword and husband Roger of Banner Elk, and Sam Townsend and husband Robert of Zionville; three step children, Jackie Irene Miller and husband Brion of Sanford, NC, Deborah Ann Nobles and husband Ardle of Thomasville, NC, and Rev. Millard S. Cook, III of New York, NY; one sister Mary Ellen Bennett and husband Richard of Delaware, two half sisters Mary Ruth Elder and husband Bobby, and Betty Jean Baity of Taylorsville, and two half brothers, Carlos Davis and Buddy Davis and his wife Bea of Taylorsville. Mr. Davis is also survived by sixteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Ivalee Storie Davis, his parents Ross Davis and Otha Shook Davis, one sister Ruth McMullin, three brothers, J.B., Herman and Nolan Davis, and one step grandson, Jonathan Harmon.

Funeral services for Mr. Charles Edward Davis will be held at 8:00 PM Monday, September 24th at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel with Br. Millard S. Cook, BSG and Reverend Jacob Willis officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Monday evening prior to services. Burial will be at Beech Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery at 10:00 AM Tuesday with military honors provided by American Legion Post 130 and Disabled American Veterans Post 90.

Leverne Smith Fox

Leverne Smith Fox, Sr., D. Sept. 19, 2012
Mr. Leverne Smith Fox, Sr., age 96, of Old Bristol Road, Boone, passed away Wednesday morning, September 19, 2012 at Life Care Center of Banner Elk. Born August 26, 1916 in Watauga County, he was a son of the late Filmore Franklin and Lena Mae Smith Fox. Leverne was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was a WWII Army Veteran. Leverne was the owner and operator of Fox’s Phillips 66 for a number of years and along with his wife owned Store House for Your Jewel Childcare. Mr. Fox was a former member of the Boone Optimist Club.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Geneva Cannon Fox, two sons; Leverne S. Fox, Jr., and wife Amy of Banner Elk and Len Fox and wife Susan of Boone, two grandchildren; Meredith Fox of Banner Elk and Will Fox of Davidson, one niece; Ramona Craig of Winston Salem and one nephew; Johnny Craig of Lenoir. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death one sister; Geraldine Craig and two brothers; Ray and Roy Fox.

Funeral services for Mr. Leverne Fox Sr. will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Roy Dobyns. Burial with military honors provided by American Legion Post 130 will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 until 2 o’clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.

Billy Dean Hodges

Billy Dean Hodges, D. Sept. 18, 2012
Billy Dean Hodges, age 81, of Life Care Center of Banner Elk, died Tuesday morning, September 18, 2012, at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville.

Mr. Hodges was born September 12, 1931 in Watauga County, a son of the late John Samuel Hodges and Nancy Jane Isaacs Hodges. He was a retired truck route salesman for Mountain Oil Company and served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Hodges is survived by one son, Eric Paul Hodges of Vilas; one daughter, Stephanie Lynn Hodges Main and husband Curtis of Sugar Grove; three grandsons, Joshua Alan Hodges of Sugar Grove, Jeremiah Hodges and Andrew Hodges, both of Vilas; one sister, Joyce Hodges Warren and husband Reverend Edd Warren of Granite Falls, and one brother, Robert L. Hodges of Toledo, Ohio. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Matthew C. Main; three sisters, Rosa Hodges, Rachel Combs, and Mary Eggers, and three brothers, Raleigh Hodges, J.D. “Doc” Hodges, and Paul Hodges.

Funeral services for Billy Dean Hodges will be conducted Thursday afternoon, September 20, 2012, at 2:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Reverend Edd Warren. Military graveside rites and burial will follow in Mabel United Methodist Church Cemetery, provided by American Legion Post 130 of Boone and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 90.

The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon, from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock, at the funeral home, prior to the service.

Robert Millsaps, D. Sept. 18, 2012
Mr. Robert Junior Millsaps, age 61, of Stone Mountain Road, Vilas, passed away Tuesday evening, September 18, 2012 at Valley Nursing Center in Taylorsville. Born October 12, 1950 in Watauga County, he was a son of the late William Columbus and Myrtle Joy Ward Millsaps. Robert worked for Thomasville furniture for a number of years and also drove a truck.

He is survived by three daughters; Susan Millsaps and Tracy Millsaps both of Vilas and April Tucker of Lenoir, seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren and a number of cousins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant brother Billy dean Millsaps.

A gathering of friends to honor Robert Junior Millsaps will be held Friday September 21, at the Beaver Dam Fire Department from 11 0’clock until 1 o’clock. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to any Hospice organization or to the Seby B. Jones Regional Cancer Center, PO Box 2570, Boone, NC 28607.
