Ola Trammel

Ola Winebarger Trammel, D. Oct. 8, 2012
Ola Winebarger Trammel, age 92, of Boone, died Monday evening, October 8, 2012, at Deerfield Ridge Assisting Living. Born August 11, 1920 in Watauga County, she was a daughter of Esau and Ethel Miller Winebarger. Mrs. Trammel was retired from the Ridgecrest Convention Center in Ridgecrest, NC.

She is survived by two step-sons, Everett Trammel and wife, Susan, and David Trammel and wife, Judy, all of Asheville, a number of step-grandchildren; four brothers, Walter Winebarger and wife, Mary and Odell Winebarger, all of Lenoir, David Winebarger and wife, Sharon, and Richard Winebarger and wife, Shirley, all of Boone; and two sisters, Ann Jarvis and Sarah Parlier, both of Boone. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thinward W. Trammel, four brothers, Thomas Edgar, Dewey Franklin, Fred and Tildon Winebarger; sister, Alverta Greene; and her parents.

Private graveside services will be in the Sky View Memorial Park in Asheville.

Juanita Reese Thomas, D. Oct. 5, 2012
Juanita Reese Thomas, 91, of Beaver Dam Road, Vilas, passed away Sunday, October 7, 2012, at the Watauga Medical Center. Born October 5, 1921 in Watauga County, Juanita was a daughter of Clyde Bunyan and Margaret Hagaman Reese.

She was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. Mrs. Thomas was a loving wife, a wonderful sister, an exceptional aunt to all her nieces and nephews, and a friend to many. She was a great cook and loved tending her flower and vegetable gardens.

Mrs. Thomas is survived by her brother, C. B. Reese and wife, Ruth, of Vilas; three sisters, Annie Moody of Lenoir, Reba Eller and husband, Ted, of Banner Elk; and Dorothy Scott and husband, Edward, of Vilas; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Russell Thomas.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 PM at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Derek Wilson and Rev. Eric Cornett. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1 until 2 o’clock, one hour prior to services, at Austin & Barnes. Burial will follow in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family respectfully requests no food. Flowers are appreciated or memorial donations may be made to the Union Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, in care of Roxanna Miller, 6797 Old US Hwy 421, Zionville, NC 28698.

Archibald Scotty Clyde

Archibald Clyde, D. Oct. 5, 2012
Archibald “Scotty” Clyde, of Boone, died Friday, October 5th at his son’s home.
Mr. Clyde was a veteran of the US Army serving 25 years and retiring as 1st Sgt. He was a resident of Fayetteville, NC and a summer resident of Boone where they attended Cool Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Margaret Clyde of the home; two sons, Robert Clyde of Fayetteville, NC and David Clyde of Boone; four step children, Ronald Pittman of Charleston, SC, Mark Pittman of Fayetteville, NC, Barbara Bagwell and husband Greg of Greenville, SC, Randale Pittman and wife June of Wade, NC. He is also survived by four step-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service for Mr. Archibald “Scotty” Clyde will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, October 8, 2012 at Cool Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Burl Greer offficiating. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 130.

Finley R. Watson, D. Oct. 5, 2012
Finley R. Watson, age 89, of Laurel Creek Road in Banner Elk, died Friday, October 5, 2012 at Glenbridge Health and Rehabilitation.

Mr. Watson is survived by two brothers, Howard Watson of Mount Airy, North Carolina, and Ronda Watson and wife Cathy of Boone, four sisters, Faye Branch and husband Bobby of Chesapeake, Virginia, Jeannette Farthing of Banner Elk, Ruth Greene and husband Buddy, of Banner Elk, and Pauline Seatz and husband John of Zionville. He is also survived by a number nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sue Michael Watson, his father and mother, Spencer Watson and Mamie Wallace Watson, and four brothers, Lewis Watson, Leonard Watson, Harry Watson and Gurney Watson.

Funeral services for Finley R. Watson will be conducted Monday, October 8th, at 2:00 o’clock at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Richard Trivette and Elder John Jackson will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Michael Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be provided by American Legion Post 130.

Zaida Hodges Trivette

Zaida Hodges Trivette, D. Oct. 3, 2012
Zaida Hodges Trivette, age 91, of Oak Avenue, Lake Placid, Florida, a native and former resident of Watauga County, died Wednesday morning, October 3, 2012, at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Sebring, Florida.

Mrs. Trivette was born September 1, 1921 in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Grant and Mamie Moody Hodges. She was a retired employee of IRC, and a member of Laurel Fork Baptist Church.

Mrs. Trivette is survived by two daughters, Nancy T. Wood and husband Cecil of Blowing Rock and Lake Placid, and Judy T. Gould and husband Tommy of Lake Placid; two sons, Colburn H. Trivette and wife Elizabeth of Lake Placid, and Kenny Trivette and wife Margery of Blowing Rock; seven grandchildren, Marty Wood and wife Diane of Boone, Andy Wood and wife Denise of Lenoir, Lisa Arnett and husband Randy of Newland, David Trivette and wife Pamela of Blowing Rock, Phillip Trivette of Warrenton, Robbie Gould and wife Angie of Columbia, South Carolina, and Nancy DuVall and husband Lance of Sebring, Florida, and one sister, Marie Isenhour and husband Douglas of Lake Placid and Blowing Rock. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, and twelve great great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter B. Trivette; two sisters, Doris Miller and Bonnie Eggers, and three brothers, Dow Hodges, Hubert Hodges, and Dallas Hodges.

Funeral services for Zaida Hodges Trivette will be conducted Sunday afternoon, October 7, 2012, at 3:00 o’clock, at Laurel Fork Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 2:00 until 3:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Dr. Daniel Featherstone. Burial will follow in Laurel Fork Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon, from 2:00 until 3:00 o’clock, at the church, prior to the service. At other times, the family will be at the home of a son, Kenny and Margery Trivette, 159 Hodges and Miller Road, Blowing Rock.

David Cook, D. Oct. 2, 2012
David Cook, age 55, of 245 Papa Cook Road, Boone, died Tuesday morning, October 2, 2012.
David was born February 26, 1957 in Watauga County, a son of Grant and Zola Harmon Cook. He was an employee of the North Carolina Department of Transportation, and a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, David is survived by his wife, Ruth Hoover Cook of the home; two daughters, Jessica Dawn Cook of Windsor, Colorado, and Michelle Cook Gaston and husband Haynes of Charlotte; one son, Brian David Cook and wife Stacey of Boone; his grandchild, Catherine Faith Cook of Boone; one brother, Mark Cook and wife Janet of Boone; one sister, Kimberly Hyatt of Boone; three sisters-in-law, Janice Nelsen and husband Paul of Beulah, North Dakota, Mary Hendricks and husband Roger of Anderson, South Carolina, and Rebecca Ashbridge and husband Stephen of Eden Prarie, Minnesota, and one brother-in-law, Harry Hoover and wife Joan of Sandy, Utah. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Don and Carol Hoover; his maternal grandparents, Boyd and Bessie Harmon, and his paternal grandparents, Roscoe and Ina Cook.

Funeral services for David Cook will be conducted Friday morning, October 5, 2012, at 11:00 o’clock, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 10:00 until 11:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Reverend Bud Russell. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening, from 6:00 until 8:00 o’clock, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church.
