Mrs. Ellen H. Hartley, D. October 29, 2012
Mrs. Ellen H. Hartley, age 79, of Blowing Rock, passed peacefully into her Savior’s arms on Monday night, surrounded by her beloved family.

Born July 19, 1933, in the Blackberry region of Caldwell County, she was the daughter of Edmund and Zora Ford Hamlet, and was the youngest of nine siblings.

She is survived by her son Mike and wife Micki of Blowing Rock and two granddaughters, Cassandra and Kathryn; her sisters Eula Young of Bishopville, SC and Kathy Steele of Gainesville, FL; brother-in-law Jim West of Newnan GA; sister-in-law Virginia Hartley of Boone; special friends Johnny Tester of Phoenix AZ, Duane & Janelle Addison of Boone, Aubrey & Elizabeth Riley of Boone; many nieces and nephews, and her loving church family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Hartley; her parents; brothers Gordie Hamlet and John Hamlet; and sisters Blanche Chandler, Mary Hamlet, Faye McCormick, and Lea Coffey.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful doctors and staff of Blowing Rock Hospital Extended Care Facility and the Intensive Care Unit of Watauga Medical Center for their excellent service and care.

A celebration of Ellen’s life will be held on Sunday, November 4th at 3:00pm at First Baptist Church in Blowing Rock, officiated by Rev. Rusty Guenther and Rev. Rhonda Gailes.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations to Blowing Rock First Baptist Church’s Benevolence Fund, at PO Box 3, Blowing Rock NC 28605.

Joyce Coffey

Joyce G. Coffey, D. October 26, 2012
Joyce Greene Coffey, 78, of West Hillcrest Drive, Mountain City, Tennessee, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, October 26, 2012. Born May 5, 1934 in Watauga County, she was a daughter of Robert and Lillie Dishman Greene. Joyce was a life long member of Clark’s Creek Baptist Church. She loved to cook for her family and friends, and her favorite pastime was sewing and stitching. Mrs. Coffey retired from the NC License Plate Agency in Boone.

She is survived by three daughters, Samra Renfro of the home, Sara Richardson of Lenoir, and Elaine McGuire and husband, Eugene, of Vilas; six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter; three sisters, Rachael Townsend and husband, Bill, and Lois Ann Hodges, all of Valle Crucis, and Lucille Smith and husband, Homer, of Salisbury; and one brother, Roy Lee Greene and wife, Betty, of Salisbury. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Truett; son, Warren Coffey; granddaughter, Sandra Joyce Ward; great-grandson, Aron Bradley Morrison; and three brothers, Lawrence, Willis, and Wayne Greene.

Ursula Voigt, D. October 26, 2012
Ursula Schroeder Voigt, age 81 of 391 Center Court Drive in Blowing Rock died Friday, October 26, 2012 at Life Care Center of Banner Elk.

Mrs. Voigt and husband Otto moved to Blowing Rock in 1985 where they owned and operated Valley View Motel of Blowing Rock for 15 years. She also sang in the church choir at St. Marks Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her husband Otto A. Voigt of the home; two daughters, Linda Harrius Liesegang and her husband Dr. Glen Liesegang of Blowing Rock, Lisa Voigt Hatch of Athens, GA; two granddaughters Holly and Emma Liesegang of Blowing Rock; a grandson Evan Hatch of Athens, GA; a great-granddaughter Helena Sherman of Blowing Rock. She is also survived by two sisters, Dolly Toth of Smithtown, NY and Dagmar Oldenettel of Cuxhaven, Germany; two brothers Hubert Schroeder of Bremerhaven, Germany and Klaus Schroeder of Cuxhaven, Germany; also a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Voigt was preceded in death by her first husband Herman Harrius, her father and mother Ernst and Emma Albinus Schroeder, three brothers and one sister.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ursula Voigt will be conducted Friday, November 2, 2012, at 6:30 PM, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 5:30 until 6:30. Officiating will be Pastor Don Just and Pastor Robert Beard.

The family will receive friends Friday afternoon, from 5:30 until 6:30, at the funeral home, prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers memorials in Ursula’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.
