Jennifer Reece Presnell, D. March 21, 2012

Jennifer Reece Presnell, age 45, of2028 Presnell School Road, Banner Elk, died Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at Watauga Medical Center.

Jennifer was born September 14, 1966 in Watauga County, the daughter of Steve and Judy Eckard Reece ofMountainCity. She was a retired nurse assistant fort Watauga Medical Center, and a member of Southside Baptist Church in Mountain City.

In addition to her parents, Jennifer is survived by her husband, Melvin J. Presnell of the home; five sons, Jamie Presnell of Banner Elk, Travis Presnell and wife Tammy of Boone, Stephen Presnell, Tommy Presnell, and Christopher Presnell, all of Banner Elk, and two brothers, Curtus Reece of Butler, Tennessee, and Steven Reece and wife Jessica of Mountain City. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Jennifer Reece Presnell will be conducted Saturday afternoon, March 24, 2012, at 1:00 o’clock, at Elk Knob Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 12:00 until 1:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Reverend J.C. Greene and Reverend Gary Hill. Burial will follow in the Main Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday evening, from 7:00 until 9:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Service.

Mathew Allen Nenninger, D. March 21, 2012

Mathew Allen Nenninger, age 51, of Boone passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at the Johnson City Medical Center, and is now at peace. Born July 8, 1960 in Oklahoma, he was a son of Ed Nenninger and Lois Hamer. Mat was a sub-contractor.

Mr. Nenninger is survived by his children, Amanda Nenninger and Emily Nenninger, both of Boone, and Thomas Powell of Kissimmee, Florida; his parents, Lois Hamer of Landrum, South Carolina, and Ed Nenninger and wife, Kathy, of Charlotte; one sister, Judy Seamone and husband, Nathan, of Boone; and two brothers, John Nenninger of Elk Park, and his girlfriend Carla, and Sgt. First Class Chris Nenninger, and wife Stella, of Honolulu, Hawaii.

Private memorial services for Mathew Nenninger will be conducted Saturday afternoon, March 24, 2012, at 2 o’clock at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 259 Pilgrims Way in Boone.

Shelton Bradley Wilson, D. March 24, 2012

Mr. Shelton Bradley Wilson, 83, of Vilas, North Carolina, died at his home Saturday 24 March 2012. He was born May 5, 1928 to Fred and Ethel Adams Wilson.

Shelton was wonderfully funny, immensely compassionate, unfailingly generous, and a compassionate friend to all. His integrity, kindness, and humility were gifts to the community. A life well-lived is his legacy to everyone who knew and loved him.

He graduated fromCoveCreekHigh Schooland attended ASU, and worked for over 50 years at IRC / TRW. He is survived by his wife, Marian Stroupe Wilson, children Shelly and Fred Wilson and his wife, Jaime, granddaughters Julianna Wilson Bond, Heather Hutchinson, Ginger Neff, sisters Gail Wilson Tugman, Evelyn Wilson Coffey and nephews, David Coffey and Johnny Greene.

A memorial service honoring the life of Shelton B. Wilson will be held Monday, 26 March 2012 at 2 p.m. at High Country United Church of Christ, 8233 Highway 421 North in Vilas. Officiating will be the Rev. Melanie Childers.

After the funeral service, friends will be received at High Country United Church of Christ.

Marilyn McKee Sturgill, D. March 26, 2012

Marilyn McKee Sturgill, 68, of Elk Creek Road, Deep Gap, died Monday, March 26, 2012 at her home, following a courageous two-year battle with ALS.

Born August 24, 1943 inLouisville,KY, she was a daughter of the late Dr. Willis Payne McKee, Sr. and Mary Evelyn Miller. She was an active member of Boone United Methodist Church. Marilyn was graduated fromColbyCollege, the University of Kentucky and Appalachian State University, where she received her Masters degree. Marilyn began working in “special education” in 1965 even before Congress passed the Special Education Law (late in 1966) – and devoted her life to working with special education students, Special Olympics and Watauga Opportunities. As a volunteer with Special Olympics, she coordinated events for over fourteen years and saw the number of participants grow from about twenty to over one hundred. Marilyn retired from Hardin Park Elementary School in May of 2009.

She is survived by her husband, William Hugh Sturgill; son, Dr. William Hugh Sturgill, III and wife Stephanie, of Winston-Salem; daughter, Stuart Sturgill Brown of Efland, NC; five grandchildren, Evan, Tyler and Kate Sturgill and Davis and Walker Brown; by two brothers: Dr. Willis McKee and wife Pam and Miller McKee and wife Cindy (all of Frankfort, KY) and by one sister, Carolyn Hackworth and husband John of Lexington, KY.

Memorial services for Marilyn McKee Sturgill will be conducted Friday afternoon, March 30, 2012, at 4 o’clock at Boone United Methodist Church, officiated by Dr. George Naff, Rev. Wayne Barnett and Rev. Marion Swann.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:30 PM at the church prior to services.
