Rena Lee Burgess, D. March 12, 2012

Ms. Rena Lee Burgess, age 51, of Pineola Road, Pineola, went home to the Lord Monday, March 12, 2012 at home. Born December 31, 1960 in Huntington, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Robert Leroy and Carolyn Irene Geer Burgess. Rena was a homemaker and attended Bethel Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband; Steve Manogue, two daughters; Sarah Leeirene Carignan and husband Richard of Sugar Grove, Caitlyn Jordan Schwebke and fiancé Matthew Huskins of Bakersville, three grandchildren; Savannah Panjoj, Taylor McNulty and Ava Carignan, one expected granddaughter; Aubrey Huskins, one sister; Carla Ashe and husband Micah of Newland, four brothers; Brent Burgess and wife Jill, Eric Burgess, Joshua Burgess and Ryan Burgess all of Florida.

Funeral services for Ms. Rena Lee Burgess will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Bethel Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Steve Ashley. Burial will follow in the Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday prior to the service from 12:30 until 2 o’clock at Bethel Baptist Church. Larry David Whittington, D. March 14, 2012

Mr. Larry David Whittington, age 55, of Boone, died Wednesday evening at Life Care Center of Banner Elk.

He is survived by three sisters; Regina Dryden of Oxford, Tammy Wilson of Raleigh, and Marie Wilson of Texas, and two brothers; Danny Whittington and wife Kathy of Boone and Brian Wilson of Taylorsville. He was preceded in death by his mother; Estella Whittington Wilson.

Charles Rhyne, D. March 15, 2012

Charles R. Rhyne, age 57, of Perkins Street, Boone, died Thursday, March 15, 2012.

Charles was born November 2, 1954 in Iredell County, a son of Cleo Greene Rhyne and the late Joe H. Rhyne. He was a retired owner/operator of a landscape and landscape supply business, and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Boone.

In addition to his mother, Charles is survived by one daughter, Emily Rhyne of Boone, and one son, Adam Rhyne of Boone.

Funeral services for Charles R. Rhyne will be conducted Sunday afternoon, March 18, 2012, at 2:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Reverend Gordon Noble. Burial will follow in Mount Lawn Memorial Parkand Gardens.

The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon, from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock, at the funeral home, prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Boone, 131 Big Valley Street, Boone, North Carolina, 28607.

Eugene “Buck” Brown, D. March 17, 2012                                                                        

Eugene “Buck” Brown, age 80, of 211 Milton Brown Heirs Road, Boone, died Saturday evening, March 17, 2012, at Watauga Medical Center.

Buck was born January 20, 1932 in Watauga County, a son of the late Frank Jordon Brown and Muriel Hodges Brown. He was a retired employee of Watauga Opportunities, and a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church.

Mr. Brown is survived by three brother, Bill Brown and wife Martha of Conover, Richard “Dick” Brown and wife Mary of Boone, and Boyce B. Brown and wife Joan of Lewisville; one niece, Jennifer Brown of Lewisville; six nephews, Jeff Brown, Wayne Brown, and Alan Brown, all of Boone, Reverend Bryan K. Brown and wife Beth of Rolesville, North Carolina, Blair Brown and wife Jennifer of Winston-Salem, and Daniel Brown of Durham; one great-niece, Sarah Brown of Rolesville, and three great-nephews, Matthew Brown of Rolesville, Gannon Brown, and Decker Brown, both of Winston-Salem.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Buster Brown and James H. Brown, and one sister-in-law, Nancy Brown.

Funeral services for Eugene “Buck” Brown will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, March 21, 2012, at 2:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 12:30 until 2:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Reverend Herbert McCoy and Reverend Bryan Brown. Burial will follow in Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.

The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon, from 12:30 until 2:00 o’clock, at the funeral home, prior to the service.

Dan Payne, D. March 17, 2012

Frank Dan Payne, 80, of  Pinnacle Drive, Boone, died Saturday morning, March 17, 2012 at his home. Born August 28, 1931 in Watauga County, he was a son of Claude D. and Evie Greene Payne. Dan was a member of the Advent Christian Church in Boone. He was with IRC in Boone for 33 years, retiring as supervisor of Dept.21. Mr. Payne served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. The love of Dan’s life was his family. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart. Grandpas have silver in their hair and gold in their hearts.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joann Winebarger Payne; two daughters, Debra Watson and husband Jeff, of Apex, and Dena Denney and husband Kenney, of Sanford; four grandsons, Derek Gentry and wife, Katie, and Darin Gentry, all of Brevard, Josh Watson of Apex, and Nathan Denney and wife, Misty, of Cary; two granddaughters, Dara Gentry of Apex, and Nikki Denney of Sanford; two great-granddaughters, Sophia and Evie, both of Brevard; two brothers, Paul and Claude Payne, both of Boone; and two sisters, Mary Farmer, and husband, Art, of Lenoir and Grace Ray of Blowing Rock.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Dennis Wayne Payne, and two brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday afternoon, March 19, 2012, at 1 o’clock at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Pastor Gordon Noble. The family will receive friends Monday morning from 11 o’clock until 1 PM, prior to services, at Austin & Barnes. Burial with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 130 will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens.

Glenn Wallace, D. March 17, 2012

Mr. Glenn E. Wallace, age 92, of Buttermilk Road, Trade, Tennessee, died Saturday, March 17, 2012, at James A. Quillen VA Medical Center in Johnson City, Tennessee.

Mr. Wallace was born December 10, 1919 in Johnson County, Tennessee, a son of the late William Marvin Wallace and Myrtle W. Wallace. He was a member  Zionville Baptist Church, a retired employee of Appalachain State Universityand a farm owner. Mr. Wallace served in the United States Army during World War II, where he received a Purple Heart, and was a member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans.

Mr. Wallace is survived by his wife of 66 years, Geraldine Grogan Wallace of the home; one daughter, Carolyn W. Wells and husband Larry of Zionville; one son, Lynn E. Wallace and wife Dianne of Ooltewah, Tennessee; three granddaughters, Susan W. Johnson and husband Jason of Greensboro, Amanda W. Bridges and husband Chris of Shelby, and Elizabeth Lewis and husband Isaiah of Watertown, Wisconsin; three grandsons, Reverend Jeremy R. Wallace and wife Dana of Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, David B. Wallace and wife Kelly of Brooklyn, New York, and James A. Wallace and wife Candace of Brooklyn, New York; four great-grandsons, Nathan and Jonathan Wallace, and Elijah and Zachary Johnson, and two brothers, Wade Wallace of Barberton, Ohio, and Bruce Wallace of Mountain City, Tennessee; three sisters-in-law, Edna Wallace and Mary June Wallace of Mountain City, Tennessee and Rebecca Hodge of Ooltewah, Tennessee; and one brother-in-law, R.L. Wallace, of Mountain City, Tennessee. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Pearl Wallace; two half-sisters, Ruth Snyder and Nell Wallace; one brother, Ralph Wallace, and two half-brothers, Fred and Roy Wallace.

Funeral services for Mr. Glenn E. Wallace will be conducted Monday afternoon, March 19, 2012, at 5:00 o’clock, at Zionville Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 3:00 until 5:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Reverend Carl Johnson. Entombment will follow in Zionville Baptist Church Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends Monday afternoon, from 3:00 until 5:00 o’clock, at the church, prior to the service.

Chuck Aldridge, D. March 18, 2012

Mr. Charles Dillard “Chuck” Aldridge, age 54, of the Foscoe Community, died Sunday, March 18, 2012 at home. Born in Catawba County March 7, 1958, he was the son of the late Dillard Aldridge and Susie Cheek Aldridge. Chuck was a registered landscape architect and the owner of Dillard Landscapes & Hardscape Construction. He loved everything about the natural world and excelled at creating beauty from its resources. He got his love of nature from both his parents and cherished it throughout his entire life. He attended Foscoe Christian Church.

He is survived by his mother; Sue Aldridge of Banner Elk, two sisters; Mary Sue Aldridge of Raleigh and Carol Ann Aldridge of Blowing Rock, four Aunts; Dema Spann, Dacota Storie, Dannie White and Dimple Clark, one uncle; Dr. Jack Lawrence, Sr., a special friend; Kitti Edwards, and a number of cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father; Dillard Aldridge.

A Celebration of Life Service for Chuck Aldridge will be conducted Thursday evening at 7 o’clock at the Foscoe Christian Church. Officiating will be Minister Dan Burks. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:30 until 7 o’clock at the Foscoe Christian Church.
