Anna Lea Caroll Keller

Anna Lea Carroll Keller, age 76, of 193 Old East King Street, Boone, died Tuesday morning, July 3, 2012, at Blowing Rock Hospital.

Mrs. Keller was born July 13, 1935 in Watauga County, a daughter of Hazel Baker Carroll and the late Russell Carroll. She was a homemaker.

In addition to her mother, Mrs. Keller is survived by three sons, Edward Lee Keller and wife Deborah of Boone, Tommy Randall Keller and wife Mary Ann of Boone, and David E. Keller and wife Donna of Vilas; one daughter, Terry Keller Heffren and husband John of Boone; two sisters, Betty Sue Miller and husband Homer of Lenoir, and Judy Hollars and husband Kyle of Boone, and two brothers, Dale Carroll and wife Betty, and Larry Carroll and wife Janice, all of Boone. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Keller.

Funeral services for Anna Lea Carroll Keller will be conducted Friday morning, July 6, 2012, at 11:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 10:00 until 11:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Reverend Gordon Noble. Burial will follow in Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening, from 6:00 until 8:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Service. At other times, friends may call at the residence, 193 Old East King Street, Boone.

Arthur Fox Wood IV, D. July 2, 2012
Arthur Fox Wood, IV, age 89, of 357 Snow Cloud Drive, Seven Devils, died Monday evening, July 2, 2012, at his home.

Mr. Wood was born November 22, 1922 in Newport, Kentucky, a son of the late Arthur F. Wood, III and Helen Chambers Wood. He was a retired agricultural engineer, and served in the United States Army and Air Force during both World War II and Korean War.

Mr. Wood is survived by his wife, Shirley Starke Wood of the home.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Metzer and Ann Woodcock.

A Funeral Mass for Arthur Fox Wood, IV will be conducted Friday morning, July 6, 2012, at 11:00 o’clock, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Linville. The body will lie in state, in the parish hall, from 10:00 until 11:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Monsignor Jeffrey Ingham.

The family will receive friends Friday morning, from 10:00 until 11:00 o’clock, in the parish hall, prior to the service.

Edith Main Greer, age 83 of 7156 Hwy 194 North in Boone died Friday, June 29, 2012 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson, NC.

Mrs. Greer is survived by three daughters, Jo Ann Teague and husband Keith of Hickory, NC, Carolyn Stevens and husband Junior of Hudson, NC, Linda Oxford and husband Mike of Hudson, NC., one daughter-in-law, Joett Greer, of Lenoir, three sisters-Gladys Stevens and husband Odell of Todd, Mary Lou Eldreth of Todd, June Eldreth of Lenoir, thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Howard Greer, one daughter, Katherine Lewis, one son, James Greer, her father and mother, David Wenton Main and Hazel Miller Main, one great-grandson, Luke Stamper, one great granddaughter, Linsey Byers, one sister, Gerldine Hoffman, and brother, Gene Main.

Funeral services for Mrs. Edith Greer will be conducted Monday afternoon, July 2, 2012, at 2:00 P.M. at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel.The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 12:30 until 2:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Reverend Mark Dula. Interment will follow in Hopewell Community Church Cemetery.

The family will recieve friends Monday afternoon, from 12:30 until 2:00 o’clock, at the funeral home, prior to the service.

At other times the family will be at the Greer residence.

Benny R. Wallace

Benny R. Wallace, D. June 29, 2012
Benny R. Wallace, age 63 of 1200 B. H. Duncan Road in Zionville died Friday, June 29, 2012 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson.

Mr. Wallace was born September 13, 1948 in Watauga County, a son of the late Robert Ray Wallace and Rena Cornett Wallace. He was a retired truck driver and served with the United States Army in Vietnam.

Mr. Wallace is survived by two sons, Eric Jamie Wallace, of Fuquay Varina, NC, and Benny Shaw Wallace of Charlotte, one granddaughter, Raegan Madison Wallace of Fuquary Varina, NC, and a special friend, Charlotte McCoy of Lenoir.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia Anne Bowers.

Funeral services for Mr. Benny Wallace will be conducted Tuesday morning, July 3, 2012, at 11:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 10:00 until 11:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Reverend J.B. Shelton and Reverend Tommy Stephens. Military graveside rites and burial will follow in the Wallace Family Cemetery, provided by American Legion Post 130 of Boone.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 o’clock, at the funeral home, prior to the service.

Gene Hayes, D. June 27, 2012
Mr. Orris Eugene “Gene” Hayes Jr., age 68, of Blowing Rock and a former resident of Sugar Grove, passed away Wednesday morning, June 27, 2012 at Blowing Rock Hospital. Born September 7, 1943 in Watauga County, he was a son of the late Orris Eugene Hayes Sr., and Onamae Teague Hayes. Gene was a carpenter and equipment operator.

He is survived by four daughters; Rosie Edwards and husband Keith of Morganton, Rachel Newman and husband Eddie of Sugar Grove, Susan Fuentes and husband Gustavo of Boone and Ariel Dixon of Florida, one son David Hayes and wife Kathy of Boone, twelve grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and one sister; Audie Earp of Sugar Grove.

Graveside services for Mr. Gene Hayes will be conducted Saturday morning at 11 o’clock at the Hampton Yates Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. David Ward and Rev. T. J. Jackson. Anita Kay Combs Bradley, age 41, of Joe Shoemaker Road, Vilas, passed away Monday afternoon, June 25, 2012. Born August 16, 1970 in Watauga County, she was the daughter of Lewis and Lena Wilson Combs. Anita was an administrative assistant at Three Forks Baptist Association. She was a member of Cove Creek Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children; Kyle Dillon Matheson of Boone and Kayleighannah Michelle Matheson of the home, her parents; Lewis and Lena Combs of Vilas, two sisters; Angela Jackson and husband Jimmy of Greensboro, and Tena Miller of Sugar Grove, one brother; Randy Combs and wife Valerie of Sugar Grove and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Anita Kay Combs Bradley will be conducted Friday morning at 11 o’clock at Cove Creek Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the education fund for Kyle and Kayleighannah Matheson in care of Randy Combs, 314 Isaacs Branch Road, Sugar Grove, NC 28679.
