Mr. William Max “Bill” Dixon Sr., age 87, of Forest Hill Drive, Boone, passed away Monday morning at home.

Michael Lee Storie

Michael Lee Storie, D. Dec. 2, 2012
Michael Lee Storie, age 64, of Browns Chapel Road, Boone, passed away Sunday afternoon, December 2, 2012 at home. Born October 16, 1948 in Watauga County, he was a son of Hunter and Gladys Dew Storie.

Mike served in the US Marine Corp and the US Navy during the Viet Nam Era, and the North Carolina National Guard during Desert Storm. He owned and operated Storie Painting. Mike’s greatest joy in life was his children, his grandchildren, observing nature and listening to blue grass music.

Mr. Storie is survived by his daughter, Julie Miller and husband, Josh, of Wilmington; son, David Aaron Storie of Zionville; two granddaughters, Amelia and Eliza Mille, both of Wilmington; grandson, Connor Storie Bussey of New Orleans, Louisiana; sister, Gloria Storie Eggers of Boone; and two brothers, Richard Storie and wife, Rita, of Sugar Grove and Ronnie Storie and Cindy, of Boone. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, December 5, 2012, at 2:30, at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Toby Oliver.

The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon from 1:30 until 2:30, one hour prior to services, at Austin & Barnes. Military graveside honors provided by the American Legion Post 130 will vollow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens.

Virginia Judy Miller

Virginia Judy Miller, D. Dec. 2, 2012
Virginia Judy Miller, age 90, of 155 Farthing Street, Boone died Sunday, December 2, 2012, at Watauga Medical Center.

Mrs. Miller was born October 27, 1922 in Houston, Texas, the daughter of the late Arthur and Clara Neumeyer Kelly Baxter. She was a homemaker, and a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Boone.

Mrs. Miller is survived by her husband, John Q. Miller, Sr. of the home, and three daughters, Sherry Miller and husband Bill of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, Sheila Willams and husband Bud Esserman of Waco, Texas, and Suzie Parnell and husband Jim of Boone. She is also survived by seventeen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Ed Judy; one son, Edward Judy, and one son-in-law, Larry Williams.

A memorial service for Virginia Judy Miller will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, December 5, 2012, at 2:00 o’clock, at Grace Lutheran Church. Officiating will be Pastor Derek Boggs and Vicar Kerri Clark.

The family will receive friends following the memorial service, in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund at Grace Lutheran Church, 115 East King Street, Boone, North Carolina, 28607.

Billie Mast Wilson

Billie Mast Wilson, D. Nov. 30, 2012
Mrs. Billie Mast Wilson, age 84, of Boone passed away Friday morning, November 30, 2012 at Glenbridge Health & Rehabilitation. Born June 17, 1928 in Watauga County, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Mamie Henson Mast.

Billie originally started her secretarial career at Wilcox Drug Co. where she worked for several years, and later retired from ASU where she worked in several departments as a secretary.

She is survived by four nephews; Terry Combs and wife Wanda of Sugar Grove, Tony Combs and wife Becky of Zionville, Chris Combs and wife Sally of Durham and Steve Combs and wife Denise of Sugar Grove, one niece; Charlie Cole and husband Doug of Boone. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Wilson and one sister; Peggy Mast Combs.

Billie loved to walk and play golf. Her flower garden on Green Street was a favorite pastime where she spent many hours in healthier times. Billie also enjoyed celebrating events with family and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Billie Mast Wilson will be conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Katherine Cornell. Burial will follow in the Mast Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday afternoon prior to the service from 1 o’clock until 2 o’clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home. Sheridan Presnell, D. Nov. 30, 2012
Sheridan Junior Presnell, age 77 of 6277 US Hwy 321 North in Sugar Grove died Friday, November 30, 2012 at Watauga Medical Center.

Mr. Presnell was born in Watauga County and worked as a farmer in the Sugar Grove community.

Survivors include four sons, James W. Presnell and wife Rita, Phillip S. Presnell and wife Cindy, Dewey W. Presnell and Robert G. Presnell, two daughters, Donna L. Presnell and husband Patrick Gallo and Jeannie Presnell-Kahle and husband John, one brother Richard Presnell. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother Phillip Sheridan Presnell and Nancy Hicks Presnell; five sisters, Lena Presnell Hicks, Mary Presnell Urban, Lula Presnell Atkins, Lucinda Presnell Trivett and Majorie Presnell McDonald; two brothers, Avery Presnell and James B. Presnell.

Funeral Service for Mr. Sheridan Junior Presnell will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, December 2, 2012 at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Gary Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow at Presnell Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Sunday.

Albert Fickling

Al Fickling, D. Nov. 30, 2012
Albert M. “Al” Fickling, II, age 60 of 297 Blackberry Road in Boone died Friday, November 30, 2012 at his home with his family at his side.

Al attended Apex High School, Apex, NC and graduated from Admiral Farragut Academy, St. Petersburg, FL in 1971. He was a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill in 1975 with a BS in Geology and was a geologist and geophysisist in uranium exploration. He attended UAB Birmingham. He became a Certified Public Accountant in 1986, and has been practicing in North Carolina for more than two decades.

He was an Eagle Scout, ordained deacon of the Baptist Church and adult Sunday School Teacher. He loved the Lord and wanted others to know Jesus Christ as their Savior. His granddaughter calls him “De-Da the Magnificent”.

Survivors include his wife Camelia Hart Fickling of the home, a son James M. Fickling and wife Kristina of Boone, a daughter Tara Kristen Fickling, of Boone and her boy friend Mike Best of Morrisville, NC, a granddaughter Skylynn Fickling of Boone, father & mother-in-law D. J. and Betty Hart of West Jefferson. Survivors also include a brother & sister-in-law Myron Hart and wife Lindy of West Jefferson, two nieces and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother Albert M. “Buck” Fickling and Louise “Lucy” Fickling.

Funeral Service for Mr. Albert M. “Al” Fickling, II will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, December 3, 2012 at Laurel Fork Baptist Church with Dr. Daniel Featherstone officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Monday. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Blowing Rock.

The family will receive friends at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel Sunday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 PM.

Robert Lee McGuire, age 78 of 430 Daniel Boone Drive in Boone died Friday, November 30, 2012 at James H. Quillen V. .A. Medical Center in Johnson City, TN.

Mr. McGuire is survived by one son, Allen McGuire and his wife Darlene of Sugar Grove, two daughters, Lee Marshall and husband Barry of Zionville and Anita Presnell and husband Tom of Laurel Creek, one brother, Ben McGuire and wife Janice of Tennessee, two sisters, Velma Harmon and husband Ray of Sugar Grove and Emmily Swift and husband Bert of Boone, one sister-in-law Patsy McGuire of Boone and best friend and companion Janta Hardin of Boone. He is also survived by five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Francis Marion and Della Rae Isaacs McGuire and one brother Dennard McGuire.

Funeral Service for Robert Lee McGuire will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday, December 3, 2012 at Westside Baptist Church. The body will lie in state at the church from 10:00 until 11:00 AM. Officiating will be Pastor David Ward and Pastor Eric Cornett. Burial with military honors provided by American Legion Post 130 and VFW Chapter 90 will take place at the McGuire Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Hampton Funeral Home.
