Doretha Long Greene, 92, of Chestnut Grove Road, Boone, passed away Tuesday morning, Dec. 23, 2014, at Hillview Family Care in Todd.

Tressie James Greene (May 09, 1922 – Dec. 21, 2014)

On Sunday morning, Dec. 21, 2014, Tressie James Greene, 92, went to spend Christmas with Jesus.

She was born May 9, 1922 in Watauga County, the daughter of Smith Wesley and Lula Matheson James. Tressie was a wife and homemaker for 65 years to her husband, the late Ralph Samuel Greene. She was also preceded in death by a son, Everett Ralph Greene and a grandson, Anthony Tony Greene. Mrs. Greene was a longtime member of Westview Baptist Church, and for many years, owned and operated Lynnhill Florist.

She is survived by two sons, John Greene and wife, Lennis, of Boone, and Mickey Greene and wife, Gayle, of Vilas; her daughter-in-law, Carolyn Greene of Boone; sister, Joyce Skeen of High Point; grandchildren, Ronnie and Nancy Greene of Franklin, Tenn., and Tim and Amy Greene of Shallotte, Dean and Kim Hopper of Madison, Tranda Greene of Johnson City, Tenn., Josh and Heather Greene of Boone, and Sid and Lauren Greene of Boone; great-grandchildren, Britney and Broklan Greene, Karly and Lexie Hopper, Isabella and Josie Greene, Cooper Greene, Kati Mac and Madi, Jake and Camryn and Emsley Greene; special aunt, Mattie Rominger of Sugar Grove; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 23, 2014, at 1 p.m., at Westview Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Tim Greene and Rev. Burl Greer. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 11: 30 a.m. until 1 p.m. prior to services, at the church. Burial will follow in the Westview Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family respectfully requests no food, and suggests memorials to the Westview Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, in care of Roy Main, 222 George Wilson Road, Boone, NC 28607.

Allen K. Denney (May 1, 1958 – Dec. 20, 2014)

Mr. Allen Keith Denney, 56, of Silverstone Road, Zionville, passed away Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014. Allen was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed all outdoor sports.

He is survived by two sons, Brad and wife Angela of Wilmington, and Jesse Denney of Boone. One daughter, Maggie Denney of Winston-Salem. His parents, Bob and Betty Denney of Zionville, a brother, Kenney and Wife Dena Denney of Cary, and a sister, Kaye Denney of Zionville. Numerous Uncles, Aunts, Nieces and Nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends Friday, Dec. 26, from 1-2 p.m. in the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. in the Zionville Baptist Church Cemetery.

Judith M. Burns (Sept. 30, 1942 – Dec. 19, 2014)

Judith Marie Burns, known to many as Judy, passed away peacefully with her family on the morning of Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, at the age of 72.

She was born Sept. 30, 1942, in Blowing Rock, to Jesse and Ethel Holshouser Burns.  Judy was a former member of Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church and actively attended Boone Advent Christian Church.  She attended Lees-McRae and Appalachian State Teachers College.  She was employed as the Town Clerk and Finance Officer for the Town of Blowing Rock where she retired.  Born and raised in Blowing Rock, Judy was a beloved mother, sister, and grandmother who was tirelessly devoted to her family and the church.  She had a passion for the Blowing Rock and Boone communities and just loved “her” mountains. Always actively involved in community efforts, Judy was instrumental in the establishment of the 1988 Museum and the Blowing Rock Historical Society. Over her many years, she enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends, was an avid reader and collector of dolls.

Ms. Burns is survived by her daughter, Kim Gillikin Blumeyer and fiancé, Eric Keller, of Boone; her son, Ben Gillikin and wife, Jeannine, of San Francisco, Calif.; eight grandchildren; brother, Ronald Burns and wife, Sylvia, of Boone; and sister-in-law, Janice Burns of Blowing Rock.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Ethel Holshouser Burns; and her brother, Jerry Burns.

A Celebration of Life Service was conducted 11 a.m. Monday morning, December 22, 2014, at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastor Gordon Noble and the Rev. Dr. Lynn Stall. The family received friends following services.  Private graveside services took place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Blowing Rock.
