Wayne Presnell
Wayne Presnell

Wayne Presnell, age 49, of Private Drive, Sugar Grove, passed away Tuesday morning, August 6, 2013, at Watauga Medical Center.

Wayne was a man full of life. He loved music, reading, laughing, working with his hands and he loved his family. Wayne grew up on a tobacco farm in the Bethel area with his parents and five siblings. As a child he fell in love with books, carving out any spare time he could find to read; a love which he carried throughout his life. Though his beautiful voice and perfect pitch went unheard by many, Wayne sang publicly during his younger years.

Ultimately Wayne would find his way as a builder of beautiful things. He built incredible homes, unique and perfectly detailed furniture & cabinets, and pretty much anything that could be made from wood, hard work and talent. His building was a form of artistry, unmatched by most, and he took painstaking care to ensure that each detail was perfect, no matter the job. He raised his children with the same unyielding care.

Wayne coached his son Jackson’s baseball team for many years with great pride, passion and joy. He worked side by side with his son Travis building the homes for which he would come to be known. The unique bond he shared with his daughter Emily was rooted solely in love and deeply special. Wayne worked tirelessly to ensure that his children would have a better life than his own.

Wayne touched many lives and hearts with his very special brand of kindness, humor and humility. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for all time.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Rhonda Taylor Presnell of Banner Elk; one daughter, Emily Clark of Sugar Grove; two sons, Travis Presnell and his special friend, Karen Harmon of Vilas, and Jackson Presnell of Banner Elk; one granddaughter, Madison Presnell of Vilas; three brothers, James Presnell and wife Rita of Sugar Grove, Phil Presnell and wife Cindy of Vilas, and Rob Presnell of Linville, and two sisters, Donna Gallo and husband Pat of Waynesville, North Carolina, and Jeannie Kahle and husband John of Boone. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Sheridan Junior Presnell and Hannah Malinda Presnell.
