Hal Mast

Hal Mast, D. Aug. 5, 2012
Mr. Robert Hal Mast, age 70, of US Hwy 421 North, Zionville, passed away Sunday morning, August 5, 2012 at Watauga Medical Center. Born August 9, 1941 in Watauga County he was the son of the late Thomas Jefferson Mast and Margaret Yates Mast. Mr. Mast was a US Navy veteran, and a member of Willowdale Baptist Church. Hal was a member of Snow Lodge #363, the Winston-Salem Scottish Rite and a Shriner. He was an owner and operator of Hal Mast Trucking and an avid golfer.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years; Greta Mitchell Mast, one son; Bill Mast and wife Debbie, one daughter; Kim Byrd and husband Ray, one grandson; Brandon Mast all of Zionville, one granddaughter; Paige Mast and his unborn great grandson William Hunter Mast both of Boone, his mother; Margaret Yates Mast of Sugar Grove, one sister Jackie Presnell and husband Howard of Marion, two step granddaughters; Jessi and Justin Wagner of Vilas and Ashley Farthing of Zionville and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father; Thomas Jefferson Mast and a grandson; William R. Mast, Jr.

Funeral services with Masonic Rites for Mr. Hal Mast will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. David Lunceford and Rev. Eugene Braswell and Snow Lodge # 363. Burial will follow at the Mast Family Cemetery with military graveside rites performed by American Legion Post 130. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Snow Lodge #363, PO Box 2672, Boone, NC 28607.

Ronald Perry

Ronald Perry, D. Aug. 5, 2012.
Dr. Ronald Morris Perry, age 59, of Valle Crucis, passed away Sunday night at Watauga Medical Center. Born November 5, 1952 in Wilson, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Harland Griffin Perry and Margaret Eggers Perry. Dr. Perry was a 1975 graduate of Appalachian State University with a BS in Accounting and received his Masters in 1976 in Human Development and Psychology Counseling. Ron received his Doctorate of Chiropractic from the University of Life in Marietta Georgia in 1992. Ever the student he taught and attended seminars all over the world. Dr. Perry practiced in Boca Raton Florida, specializing in Patters of Physical Transformation and the Feldenkrais method. He had a special love for homeless animals, especially cats.

He is survived by his wife; Dr. Edie Perry of Valle Crucis and his mother; Margaret Eggers Perry and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Harland Griffin Perry.

Funeral services for Dr. Ronald Morris Perry will be conducted Friday morning at 11 o’clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Dr. George Miles. Burial will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens. In lieu of memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. The family will receive friends Friday prior to the service from 10 o’clock until 11 o’clock at the funeral home. At other times friends may call at the residence of Margaret Eggers Perry.

Sharon Norman, D. Aug. 4, 2012
Sharon Lee Norman, age 64, of 185 Norwood Hollow Road, Banner Elk, died Saturday afternoon, August 4, 2012, at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville.

Ms. Norman is survived by one sister, Lila N. Landham and husband Jack of Griffin, Georgia.

A memorial service for Sharon Lee Norman will be conducted at a later date.

Dwight Brown, D. Aug. 1, 2012
Mr. Dwight Brown, age 80, of Andy Hicks Road, Banner Elk, died Wednesday morning, August 1, 2012, at Life Care Center in Banner Elk.

Mr. Brown was born May 17, 1932 in Avery County, a son of the late George and Rosetta Guy Brown. He was a retired carpenter and a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church.

Mr. Brown is survived by one daughter, Debbie Norris and husband Roger of Elk Park; one son, Charles Brown and wife Brenda of Banner Elk; two granddaughters, Erica Johnson and husband Raborn of Boone, and Jennifer Brown of Banner Elk; two grandsons, Roger Lee Norris of Abingdon, Virginia and Matthew Brown and wife Tracey of Vilas, and three brothers, Roscoe Brown and wife Pauline of Elk Park, Junior Brown of Hickory, and Raymond Brown and wife Margaret of Elk Park. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Geneva Presnell Brown.

Funeral services for Mr. Dwight Brown will be conducted Thursday evening, August 2, 2012, at 7:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 6:00 until 7:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Reverend Melvin Hodges. Graveside services and burial will be conducted Friday morning, at 10:00 o’clock, at the Presnell Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening, from 6:00 until 7:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Service.

James V. Price, D. Aug. 1, 2012
James Vadis ‘Proxy’ Price, age 67, of Wildcat Hollow Road, Creston, passed away Wednesday evening, August 1, 2012 at Blowing Rock Hospital. Born January 6, 1945 in Caldwell Co., to James Houston Price and Rosie Coffey Price Rich. James was a retired carpenter and was of the Baptist faith. He was a devoted NASCAR racing fan and an avid deer hunter.

Mr. Price is survived by his wife, Linda Mahala Price; son, Jimmy Price of Creston; daughter, Melissa Price Millner and husband, Jesse, of Beloit, Wis.; three grandchildren, Kenneth Millner and Jessica Millner, both of Beloit, Wis., and Deja Price of Trade, Tn.; his step-mother, Mae Price of Union, SC; ten sisters, Shirley Hollars and husband, Lewis, Mary Ann Gonzales, and Roberta Rich, all of Lenoir, Frances Laws and husband J. L., and Martha Ford and husband, Bud, all of Boone; Rosemary Price and Alice Davis and husband Roy, all of Union, SC, Trula Rawlings and husband, Jack of Richland, TX, and Betty Sharpe of Lenoir,and Rita Crump and husband, Wade, of Morganton; six brothers, Frank Coffey, Gaither Rich, Junior Rich and wife June, Paul Rich and wife, Mary, and Johnny Rich, all of Blowing Rock, and Jim Price of Roswell, N. Mex.; and four aunts, Dolly Coffey and husband Dayton, of Randleman, Belle Coffey of Boone, and Grace and Peggy Coffey, both of Lenoir. A number of nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by step-father, Leonard Rich, and one brother, Robert Rich.

Funeral services for James Vadis ‘Proxy’ Price are will be conducted Sunday afternoon, August 5, 2012, at 2 o’clock at the Rock Creek Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Anthony Roark and Rev. James Henson. Burial will follow in the Mahala Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 5 until 7 o’clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.
