Eula McNeil Brown

Eula McNeil Brown, D. April 25, 2012

Mrs. Eula McNeil Brown, age 84, of 180 Daniel Drive, Boone, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday morning, April 25, 2012, at Deerfield Ridge Assisted Living in Boone.

Mrs. Brown was born December 30, 1927 in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Corbett and Mirtie Green McNeil. She was a homemaker and a member of Rutherwood Baptist Church, where she taught childrens Sunday School for many years.

Mrs. Brown is survived by one son, Dr. Blake Brown and wife Ann of Boone; one grandson, Daniel Brown of Boone; one brother, Bill McNeil and wife Lena of Boone; two nieces, Sharon Greer and husband Jerry, and Cindy Jones, all of Boone; one sister-in-law, Dare Watson and husband Dillard of Statesville, and one aunt, Lois Norris of Boone.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, R.V. Brown, and her twin sister, Ella McNeil Parlier.

Funeral services for Mrs. Eula McNeil Brown will be conducted Saturday morning, April 28, 2012, at 11:00 o’clock, at Rutherwood Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 10:00 until 11:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Reverend Gary Lawrence and Reverend Herbert McCoy. Burial will follow in Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.

The family will receive friends Friday evening, from 6:00 until 8:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Service. At other times, friends may call at the home of her son, Blake and Ann Brown, 217 Daniel Drive, Boone.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rutherwood Baptist Church Building Fund, 142 Don Hayes Road, Boone, North Carolina, 28607, or to the Baptist Children’s Home of North Carolina, PO Box 338, Thomasville, North Carolina, 27361.

The family would like to thank the staffs of Deerfield Ridge Assisted Living and Medi-Home Hospice for the loving care they provided for Mrs. Brown.

Gailya Taylor Hinshaw, D. April 24, 2012

Gailya Taylor Hinshaw, age 81, of 1825 Russ Cornett Road, Boone, died Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at her home.

Mrs. Hinshaw was born December 20, 1930 in Surry County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Arthur and Susie Venable Taylor. She was a retired administrative assistant for the Caldwell County and Burke County Soil Conservation Service. Mrs. Hinshaw was an avid Atlanta Braves Baseball fan.

Mrs. Hinshaw is survived by two sons, Jack Hinshaw and wife Felecia of Knoxville, Tennessee, and David Hinshaw and wife Cindy of Boone; three granddaughters, Kaitlyn Hinshaw and Emily Hinshaw, both of Boone, and Amber Hinshaw of Knoxville; two grandsons, Joey Hinshaw and Hayden Hinshaw, both of Knoxville, and one sister, Jane King of Mount Airy. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Hinshaw; five brothers, and two sisters.

A memorial service for Gailya Taylor Hinshaw will be conducted Saturday afternoon, April 28, 2012, at 3:30 PM, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Pastor Chuck Bristle.

The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon, from 2:00 until 3:30 PM, at the funeral home, prior to the service.

Bobbie Lou Edmisten, D. April 23, 2012

Bobbie Lou Edmisten went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 23, 2012 at her home. Born May 29, 1951 in Boone, she was a daughter of Bob and Isabell Beach Campbell.

Mrs. Edmisten is survived by her husband of 42 years, and the love of her life, Joe Edmisten; son, Jonathan Edmisten and wife, Heather, and grandson, Mason, all of Vilas, granddaughter, Taylor and grandson, Trevor Edmisten, and their mother, April, all of Vilas; step-grandchildren, India Taylor and husband Andrew, and Sheldon Dillard, step-great grandson, Skylar Taylor; step-son, Billy Joe Edmisten and wife, Lisa, step-grandson, Joey Edmisten and wife, Sarah, step-granddaughter, Casey Deese and husband, David, and step-great granddaughters, Kaitlynn Edmisten and Alyssa Deese; sisters, Kaye Stout and husband, Earnest, of Riner, Va., Brenda Winebarger and husband, Russell, of Vilas, and Judy Lones and husband, Lee, of Miami, Fl.; her mother-in-law, Lola Edmisten of Boone; and brothers-in-law, William Edmisten and wife, Janette, of Vilas, and Baxter Edmisten and wife Shirley, of Blowing Rock. Also surviving are many adoring nieces, nephews, and a multitude of loving and caring friends.

Mrs. Edmisten was a member of Forest Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Thank you to her church family and the many friends for your prayers, meals, words of encouragement and love during her illness.

Our deepest appreciation to Dr. Sobel, Dr. Gray, and the wonderful staff at the Seby Jones Cancer Center, whom she lovingly called her ‘Angels’.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon, April 26, 2012, at 2 o’clock at the Union Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Thomas Brown and Rev. Carl Johnson. Burial will follow in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 o’clock at Austin & Barnes.

Josephine Osborne, D. April 21, 2012

Josephine Osborne “Jo” Hughes, 85, of Boone, died Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Glenbridge Health & Rehabilitation. Myrtle Josephine Osborne was born May 2, 1926 to Edward and Beatrice Farmer Hughes. Jo spent her early years growing up in the Creston community of Ashe County. She was a graduate of Lees McRae College, before becoming the medical secretary for Dr. Hadley’s Wilson’s office in Boone for more than 20 years. She attended Three Forks Baptist Church.

Mrs. Hughes is survived by her daughter, Donna Hughes of Cary; sister, Ella Daugherty of Springfield, Va.; and sister-in-law, Betty Church of Boone. Ten nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ray Osborne.

Gathering of friends will be Thursday, April 26, 2012, from noon until 1 o’clock, at Austin & Barnes. Funeral services will follow at 1 o’clock at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. David Ricker.

Burial will be at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Three Forks Baptist Church Mission Program, 1922 US Hwy 421, South, Boone, or to the Watauga Humane Society, PO Box 1835, Boone, NC 28607.

Betty Edge Stoetzer, D. April 20, 2012

Betty Edge Stoetzer, age 94 of Blowing Rock died Friday, April 20, 2012 at Blowing Rock Hospital.

Mrs. Stoetzer was born in Wheeling, WV and spent the majority of her working life in Miami, FL. Following retirement they moved to Deltona, FL and finally settled in Blowing Rock five years ago.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years Earl Matthew Stoetzer, Sr. a great-grandchild Zane Stoetzer.

Survivors include two sons, Earl M. Stoetzer, Jr. and his wife Betty of Dunnellon, FL and Robert Stoetzer and his wife Toby of Blowing Rock, NC; six grandchildren, David Stoetzer of Lansdale, PA, Nicholas Stoetzer of Miami, FL, Katherine Stoetzer of Miami, FL, Vickie Stoetzer of Biloxi, MS, Gregory Stoetzer of Orlando, FL and Jason Stoetzer of Berlin Germany; seven grear-grandchildren, George Gomez of Miami, FL, Alex Gomez of Williamsburg, VA, Stephen Ribero of Miami, FL, Robert Ribero of Miami, FL, Gabriella Stoetzer of Miami, FL, Lucas Stoetzer of Miami, FL and Zooey Stoetzer of Miami, FL; one step-great grandchild Joey.

A memorial service for Betty Stoetzer will be held in Miami, FL at a later date.

Johnny E. Rominger, D. April 20, 2012

Mr. Johnny Edward Rominger, age 63, of Willowdale Church Road, Vilas, went to be with Jesus Friday evening, April 20, 2012 at home. Born May 22, 1948 in Watauga County, he was a son of the late Narvie Rominger and Cecil Guy Rominger. Johnny was a member of Willowdale Baptist Church for over 30 years. He was a US Army and National Guard Veteran, having served in Vietnam and Saudi Arabia. Johnny was a mechanic, truck driver and a jack of all trades.

In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife; Peggy Rominger, two daughters; Lisa Greer of Boone and Becky Isaacs and husband Randy of Sugar Grove, three grandchildren; John Robert “Bobby” Rominger, Tyler Greer and LaShae Cowan, two great grandchildren; Aiden Scott Miller and Bailey Ann Oakes, his brothers and sisters; Frank Guy of Sugar Grove, Shirley Osborne of Brooksville, Florida, Evelyn Greene and husband Bob of Boone, Harold Rominger and wife Teresa of Midland, Kenneth Rominger and wife Barbara of Charlotte, Ricky Rominger of Sugar Grove, Patricia Ward and husband James of Mocksville, and Deborah Rominger of Granite Falls, his brothers and sisters in law; Barbara Brown and husband Johnny of Zionville, Joyce Burke and husband Bill, Brenda Roberts and Robin Tagliaferri all of Baltimore, Maryland and Margie Dobbins and husband Bobby of Boone, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Johnny Edward Rominger will be conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Willowdale Baptist Church. The body will lie in state at the church from 1 until 2 o’clock. Officiating will be Rev. Eugene Braswell and Rev. Kenneth Bryant. Burial with military honors provided by American Legion Post 130 will follow at the Harmon Family Cemetery. Edgar L. Seatz, D. April 18, 2012

Mr. Edgar L. Seatz, age 90, of 198 Brown Road, Todd, died Wednesday morning, April 18, 2012, at Watauga Medical Center after a period of declining health.

Mr. Seatz was born May 28, 1921 in Ashe County, a son of the late Roby W. and Barbara Moretz Seatz. He was a retired self-employed farmer and a member and former deacon of South Fork Baptist Church in Todd.

Mr. Seatz is survived by two daughters, Yvonne Fletcher and Doris Sigmon and husband Lewis, all of Todd; two granddaughters, Joanne Fletcher of Todd, and Julie Alexander-Hamilton and husband Justin of Penrose, North Carolina; one sister, Mrs. Grace Wagoner of Todd, and one brother, Reverend Robert Eugene Seatz of Granite Falls. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mrs. Catherine M. Seatz; a son-in-law, Larry Dean Fletcher; five sisters, and three brothers.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Mr. Edgar L. Seatz will be conducted Saturday afternoon, April 21, 2012, at 2:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Reverend Homer Murdock, Reverend Herbert McCoy, and Reverend Robert Eugene Seatz. Burial will follow in Old Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon, from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock, at the funeral home, prior to the service.

Ralph J. Greene, D. April 18, 2012

Mr. Ralph Jerry Greene, age 92, of Blevins Lane, Elk Park and a former resident of Sugar Grove, passed away Wednesday morning, April 18, 2012. Born February 14, 1920 in Watauga County, he was a son of the late Zilla and Rosa Isaacs Greene. Mr. Greene was retired from the Department of Transportation where he was a truck driver. Ralph was a WWII veteran of the US Army and the US Navy. He is a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Mr. Greene is survived by one daughter, Deanie Wolfe of Vilas; two sons, Jerry Greene and wife, Debra, of Vilas and Tony Greene of Sugar Grove; three step-daughters, Wilma Gail Ward of Sugar Grove, Billie Paulette Greene and husband, Larry, of Fleetwood, and Ella Jean Harris and husband, Vincent, of Wilkesboro; and one brother, Fred Greene and wife, Anna Mae, of Vilas. Fourteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Retha Love Greene, his second wife, Josephine Mae Guy Greene, one son, Robert Estel Greene, one sister, Pearl Greer, and two brothers, Estel and Ivy Greene.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon, April 20, 2012, at 2 o’clock at Antioch Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Delmar James and Rev. Carl Wilson. Burial with military honors provided by American Legion Post 130 will follow in the Dow Ward Cemetery.
