Rose Esposito DeCrosta 
(September 02, 1923 – October 7, 2018) 

    Rose Mary Esposito DeCrosta, age 95, of Boone, Passed away Sunday evening, October 7, 2018 at Watauga Medical Center. Born September 2, 1923 in New Haven, Connecticut, she was a daughter of John and Carmela Avalone Esposito. 
    Mrs. DeCrosta was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Boone. 
    
    Always the loving wife, mother and grandmother, Rose is survived by her daughter, Jo-Ann Delucia and husband, Dominic, of Boone; son, Pat DeCrosta and wife, Gayle, of East Haven, Ct.,; daughter-in-law, Rosalie DeCrosta of Middleton, CT; and five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip DeCrosta; son, John DeCrosta; and daughter-in-law, Noreen. 
    
    A funeral Mass for Rose DeCrosta will be celebrated Saturday morning, October 13, 2018 at 11 o’clock at Our Lady of Pompeii Catholic Church in East Haven. The family will receive friends from 9 until 10:30, prior to services. Rite of Christian Burial will be in the St. Lawrence Cemetery in West Haven.

Phillip Barrier

January 3, 1938 – October 8, 2018

Phillip Lloyd Barrier, age 80, of Ingalls, North Carolina passed away on Monday, October 8, 2018 at the Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine, NC surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on January 3, 1938 in Avery County, North Carolina, a son of the late Bob Barrier and the late Ruth Buchanan Barrier.

He graduated from the Cranberry High School and served his country in the United States Marine Corps, reaching the rank of Corporal. He returned home and worked for Glen Raven Mills in Newland before joining the North Carolina Department of Transportation retiring as Assistant Superintendent for Avery County. After Phil retired from the DOT, he helped his youngest son run Belview Flowers Inc. He was a member of the Minneapolis Christian Church, where he had served as a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent for over 50 years. Phil loved to be outdoors, especially mowing his family’s yards.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby “Grady” Barrier; twin sisters, Rose and Ruth Barrier; step mother, Addie B. Barrier; brother in law, Frank Thornton.

Phil leaves behind to cherish his memory: Wife of 56 years, Mitzi Greene Barrier of Newland, NC; Son, Phillip Lloyd (Renee) Barrier, Jr.; Daughter, Diane (Larry) Pyatte; son, Charles Robert (Stacie) Barrier; sister, Anita Thornton; sister in law, Barbara Barrier; grandchildren and great grandchildren: Kendra and Kevin Sheets and their children, Katlin and Luke; Jane and Josh Ollis; Hailey and Ricky Kinner, and their children Adelyn and Merrick; Kaila and Teddy Thomas, and their child, Hunter; Jessie and Joe Schwartz, and their children, Landon and Isabella; Lacey and Tyler Buchanan; Joshua E. Barrier; Lanie Duncan; Eli Duncan; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins and many, many friends.

Services for Phil Barrier will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Minneapolis Christian Church. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 13, from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at the church.

Flora Lucille Sutherland
October 4, 1937 – October 9, 2018

Flora Lucille Sutherland, 80, of Newland, passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at the Bryan Center in Spruce Pine, NC.
A native of Ashe County, she was a daughter of the late Lester Paul Sutherland and the late Martha Annie Green Sutherland.
She was a member of the Pineola Baptist Church and worked for Yellow Mountain Enterpises. She loved cats, coffee, snuff, bubble gum and Three Musketeer’s Candy Bars.
She leaves behind her loving family at the Avery County Group Home and the Yellow Mountain Enterprises, along with her best friend, Mary Nell Tucker.
