Andrew Barrier, D. Oct. 11, 2012
Andrew Barrier, age 92, of Newland passed away on October 11, 2012 at his residence.
He was born December 21, 1919 in Jonas Ridge, a son of the late Alex and Fleety Rose Barrier.
He was a member of the Pineola Church of God where he served as Sunday School Superintendent for 17 years.
Andrew was a member of the Ruritan Club, a founding member of the Jonas Ridge Fire Department and enjoyed woodworking, feeding birds and fishing. He was a WWII veteran and received two Bronze Stars, the Philippines Liberation Medal, Victory Medal and the Purple Heart.
Along with his parents, Andrew was preceded in death by: five brothers, two sisters.
Andrew has left to cherish his memory his: wife, Myrtle Barrier of the home; daughters, Jean Williams of Morganton, Della Wright and husband Bob of Hickory, Nancy Dellinger of Newland, Jewel Barrier of Morganton; son, Avery Barrier and wife Cindy of Jonas Ridge; sister, Edith Singleton of Hickory; nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, many, many friends.
Funeral services for Andrew Barrier will be conducted on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Pineola Church of God with Rev. Joshua Earl and Pastor David Ray officiating with interment to follow in the Jonas Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 13th from 6:00 p.m. – 8p.m. at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.

John Henry Daniels, D. Oct. 9, 2012
John Henry Daniels age 75 of Roan Mountain TN passed away on October 9, 2012.
A native of Avery County he was born on March 19, 1937 to the late Donald Daniels and Mable Ollis Murr.
He was a member of Upper Shell Creek Christian Church. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially watching his grandkids play basketball. He was Pawpaw to every kid that knew him.
Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his brother in law Dwight Johnson and 2 nephews Ronnie Daniels and Kenny Webb.
Left to cherish his memory are: his wife Margie Beck Daniels, daughters Betty Jo Daniels and Patricia Daniels her fiance Mark Renfro and son Alan McFalls. Six grandkids Dustin Calhoun, Kalee Strickland, Shian Strickland, Megan McFalls, Holly McFalls and Dawn Warren. 5 great grand children. Siblings: Elaine Johnson, Bet and Casey Woody, Shirley and Joe Woody, Hildred Daniels, Donnie and Deb Daniels and Richard and Susie Daniels and step dad Robert Murr. Many nieces, nephews and friends he loved and held very close to his heart. A special family friend Annie Watson and six very special kids that he loved very much. Jonathan (jon boy) Noble, Jake Street, Maggie Heaton, Leighney Hogan, Kaylen Fields and Karah Fields.
Funeral services for John Henry Daniels will be conducted on Friday, October 12th at 8:00 p.m. in the Grandfather Chapel of Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Trivett and Rev. Bedford Motley officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until the service hour. Family, friends and pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home on Saturday,
October 13th at 10:00 a.m. to go in procession to the Daniels Cemetery for graveside services.

Jack Clinton Clark, D. Oct. 10, 2012
Jack Clinton Clark, age 44, of Pittman Gap passed away on October 10, 2012.
A native of Avery County, he was born October 10, 1968 the son of the late Jack and Barbara Clark.
Along with his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his: grandparents, Romer and Ethel Clark, Eley and Elsie Clark; father-in-law, Gene Whisnant.
Jack has left to cherish his memory: his, wife, Susan Clark of the home; son, Jackson Cory Clark and fiance Etosha Crowder of Jonas Ridge; daughters, Amber Paige Clark and Megan Hope Clark both of Pittman Gap; granddaughter, Aaiden Jade Crowder of Jonas Ridge; sisters, Robin Denise Clark and her life long partner Lisa Clarke of Durham, Vicki Clark Richardson and husband George of Spruce Pine; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Betty and Roger Clark of Jonas Ridge; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Chad and Lisa Greene of Spruce Pine; nieces and nephews, Regina, Chris, Mike Clarke of Durham, Levi, Ryan, Abby Richardson of Spruce Pine, Alisha, Brianna, Cameron, Caleb Greene of Spruce Pine; several special “hunting buddies”, friends and several aunts, uncles and cousins near and hear to his heart.
Funeral services for Jack Clinton Clark will be conducted on Monday, October 15, 2012 at 1:00 pm at the Pittman Gap Church with Pastor David Ray and Pastor Donald Gragg officiating. Interment will follow in the Harper Creek Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 14, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.

Barbara Jo Berry, D. Oct. 8, 2012
Barbara Jo Berry , age 67, of Banner Elk passed away on October 8, 2012 at Life Care Center of Banner Elk.
A native of Avery County, she was born January 16, 1945 a daughter of the late William Pardee and Blanch Andrews Smith.
She was a member of Arbor Dale Presbyterian Church.
Barbara was a Beautician, the Activities Assistant at Life Care Center and an Author.
She enjoyed, rock gardens, writing and interior decorating.
Along with her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her: siblings, Claude Smith, Frank Smith, Daisy Harvell, Ann Buchanan.
Barbara has left to cherish her memory her: husband, Frank Berry of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Gregg and Jennifer Berry of Banner Elk; siblings, Charlie Smith of Luray, VA, Gene Smith of Yerington, NV, Louise Kolesar of Lockport, NY, Paul Smith of Banner Elk, Hal Smith of Banner Elk; grandsons, Cameron Berry, Connor Berry; step-grandchildren, Nicole Rose, Jason Rose.
At Barbara’s request, all services will be private.

Petra Gregory, D. Oct. 6, 2012
Petra Gregory, age 52, of Linville passed away on Sunday October 6, 2012.
She was born August 9, 1960 in Germany. She was a homemaker.
Petra has left to cherish her memory her: fiance, Carroll Gragg of Linville; special friends of Carol’s family, Sid Gragg of Linville, Floyd Gragg of Concord, William Gragg of Wesley Chapel, Fl., Mary Grindstaff of Charlotte and many other close friends.
Funeral services for Petra Gregory will be conducted on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. the Grandfather Chapel of Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with interment to follow in the Leason-Carroll Gragg Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
