Ann B. Hobson passed peacefully on Friday, May 23, 2014. She was 92 years old and resided at the Ben Atchley State Veterans Home in Knoxville, Tenn., for the past five years.

Ann was the beloved wife of Robert Edward Hobson, who died in 1986. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Silas and Ethel Buchanan; infant sister, Alreta Buchanan; sisters: Willa Rae Jobe, Mary Lee Henline, Alma Jean Thomas, and brother Jay Walter Buchanan. Great granddaughter, Addison Elizabeth Legg also preceded her in death in 2003.

Ann was a graduate of Cranberry High School and served as a librarian aide at Riverside Elementary School along side her husband, who was principal. She leaves to cherish her memory two children: Bobbie Legg (George) of Knoxville, Tennessee and Mickey Hobson (Carol) of Leland, North Carolina. Ann was affectionately known as “Mama Annie” by her grandchildren: Jason Legg (Jessica) of Knoxville, Tennessee; LeAnne Alewine (Kevin) of Greenville, South Carolina and Christopher Hobson (Kristen) of Wilmington, North Carolina. Precious great grandchildren are Kate, Jake and Reese Legg and Lydia and Anna Claire Alewine (her namesake).

Ann also leaves a loving sister, Aileen English (Paul) as well as brother-in-law, Phillip Henline, all of Spruce Pine, North Carolina. Her sister-in-laws are Jean Buchanan of Minneapolis, North Carolina and Inez Bates (Ronald) of Naples, Florida. Several nieces and nephews are comforted, along with her immediate family, by her long and well-lived life. The family would like to express sincere appreciation for the loving care provided by the staff at Ben Atchley State Veteran’s Home.

Services will be conducted by the Reverend Brandon Pitman on Thursday, May 29, 2014, at 6 p.m. with welcoming of family and friends from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, 296 Ash Street, Newland, North Carolina will be serving the family. Interment and graveside rites for the family will be held on Friday, May 30, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Buchanan Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS, 66675 or Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH, 45250.

Oscar Grady Hughes, 72, loving father, grandfather and the great paw went home to be with his Lord at his home on Mollies Branch in the Roaring Creek Community on May 21, 2014. He will be deeply missed by family, a host of friends and members of his church family, Ivey Heights Church.

He is proceeded in death by: his mother Eliza Hughes, brother, Bill “Little Bill” Hughes and grandson, Grant Tanner Smith.

He is survived by: two daughters, Mitzi (Dale) Smith of Oakland, Cal., Robin (Robby) Puckett of Roan Mtn., Tenn.; grandchildren, Jessi Teaster, Lydia Smith, Garrett Smith and Kari Puckett; great grandchildren, Kloye and Karlee Teaster and previous wife, Marilyn Hughes.

Funeral services for Mr. Hughes will be held on Tuesday, May 27, at 8:00 p.m. in the Grandfather Chapel. The family will gather with friends from 6:00 p.m., until the service hour Tuesday at the funeral home.
