Rothrock Hopson, D. March 17, 2012

Rothrock Hopson, 89, of Jerry’s Creek Rd., Newland the Roaring Creek Community, passed away on March 17, 2012 at his residence.
He was born March 12, 1923 in Avery County, a son of the late Linnie and Dela Grindstaff Hopson. Mr. Hopson was a farmer and served his country in the United States Army during World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Paulette Hughes; brother, Tom Hopson; sisters, Deckie Hughes, Dollie Poore; and a niece, Betty Lou Beattie.
He is survived by his wife, Delphia Hughes Hopson of the home; daughters, Brickie Pittman, and husband, Joe, of Spruce Pine, Nadine Helton, and husband, Jerry, of Roaring Creek; son, Perry Hopson, and wife, Teresa, of Roaring Creek; grandchildren, Merina and Derrick Staton of Spruce Pine, Joseph Lacey Pittman of Spruce Pine, Ray and Janel Howell of Roaring Creek, Shad Helton of Roaring Creek, Richie and Shelia Helton of Three Mile, Angel and Andrew Dugger of Lick Log, Chad and Kristen Hopson of Roaring Creek, John and Julie Hopson of Roaring Creek, Anthony and Cathy Hughes of Marion, Paula and Anthony Renfro of Burnsville; sixteen great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Rothrock Hopson will be conducted on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. in the People’s Church on Roaring Creek with the Revs. Chris Nance and Daniel Nance officiating. Interment will follow in the Hopson Cemetery with Military honors provided by the Pat Ray Post of the VFW. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Tuesday prior to the services.
