Stella Cook Thomas, 91, former residence of Birchfield Creek Rd., Minneapolis, NC but spent the last two years at Roan Highlands Nursing Center passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2013. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Thomas; sons, Earl Dean and Gary Thomas; brothers, Walt Cook, Calvin Cook, Willard Cook; sister, Vernal Taylor. 

Stella was loved by her family and friends, and was known for her homemade biscuits and apple pies. She loved flowers and was a homemaker. 

She is survived by her son, C.L. Thomas, and his wife, Joyce, of Roan Mountain, TN; daughter in law, Jackie Thomas; grandkids, Lee Thomas, Angi Clark and her husband, Chad, Steve Thomas, and his wife, Beverly, Tim Thomas, Megan Thomas; great grandkids, Sidney Clark, Isaac Clark (her little preacher man), Codey Thomas, Bailey Thomas; A special Niece, Willie Nell Ollis. 

Family, friends, and pallbearers will gather at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 16, at 10:00 am in preparation for the services. 

Officiating will be the Revs. John McCoury and Allen Laws.

Michael Greene, 65, of Minneapolis passed away on July 11, 2013 at Johnson City Medical Center. 

A native of Avery County, he was born January 6, 1948 a son of the late Charles Walter Greene and Edith Greene Buchanan. 

He owned and operated Michaels Wholesale Florist and was a member of the Minneapolis Christian Church. Michael was very active in his community, a person who would help a neighbor anytime he could. He also enjoyed motorcycle riding. 

Along with his parents, Michael was preceded in death by a son, David Walter Greene; brothers, Buddy Greene and Bucky Greene. 

Michael has left to cherish his memory his: wife, Vivian Young Greene of the home; daughter, Michaela Greene, and her husband, Dustin, of Winston-Salem; sons, Gideon Greene, and his wife, Amy, of Minneapolis, Daniel Greene of Minneapolis; sisters, Mitzi Barrier, and her husband, Phil, of Ingalls Sue Cagle of Georgia; grandchildren, Nora Leigh Greene, Dayton Greene, and Corbin Greene. 

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 16, at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. 

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, at the Minneapolis Christian Church with Pastor Bryan Griffith officiating. Interment will follow in the Minneapolis Cemetery. 

Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to the Johnny Callahan Scholarship Fund, PO Box 124, Minneapolis, NC 28652.

Dood Earl Pritchard, 44, of Newland passed away on July 10, 2013. 

A native of Avery County, he was born October 7, 1968 a son of the late Walter Otis and Elaine Cecile Johnson Pritchard. 

He was a jack of all trades and an excellent woodworker. Dood was a loving father and grandfather and a great friend to all. He was a member of Fletchers Chapel. 

Along with his parents, Dood was preceded in death by his sister, Ginger Pritchard. 

Survivors include his daughters, Elizabeth Pritchard of Bristol, VA, Sloan Pritchard of Newland; granddaughter, Eliyah Canter; sisters, Robbin Pritchard of Alaska, Carletta Eastman, and her husband, Darren, of Hendersonville, NC, Kim Storie, and her husband, Greg, of Matney, NC and Sabra Arnold, and her husband, Jamie, of Texas. 

The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 14, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to help with final expenses.
