Ittoween Elizabeth Young, age 90, of Minneapolis, NC passed away Thursday, February 20, 2014 after a lengthy and devastating illness at Roan highlands Nursing Home, Roan Mountain, TN. 

She was a member of Minneapolis Christian Church of which she had a loving feeling and missed getting to attend services. 

She was a much loved school teacher and many remembered her as “the best”. She was a graduate of Appalachian State University and had her MA Degree from the University. 

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Harry and Myrtle Buckingham Young and is survived by her sister, Lola and many loving cousins and friends. 

She and Lola spent the last twenty one winters in Leesburg, FL., but she was always anxious to come home which they did in April. 

There will be a service for Ittoween at a later date. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Minneapolis Cemetery Fund of which her Dad, Harry loved and worked with very much. 

Reins-Sturdivant of Newland is in charge of arrangements.

Ashton Wayne McGee, age 7 months, of Roan Mountain passed away on February 19, 2014. 

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Clifton McGee. 

He is survived by; his mother, Savannah Hughes of Roan Mountain; father, Phillip McGee of Rockingham, NC; maternal grandmother, Jeannie Hughes of Roan Mountain; maternal grandfather, Jessie Hughes, Newland; paternal grandmother, Margaret McGee of Rockingham; sister, Jasmine McGee of Foscoe; maternal great grandmother, Rosalie Benfield of Jonesborough, TN. 

Funeral services for Ashton Wayne McGee will be conducted on Tuesday, February 25th at 2:00 p.m. Emmanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Ingham officiating. Interment will follow in the Crossnore First Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the services at the church.

Barbara Hoilman Young, D. Feb. 17, 2014

Barbara Hoilman Young, 83, of Roaring Creed Road passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of February 17. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Coyd and Elizabeth Hoilman; brothers, Floyd Hoilman and Loyd “Buck” Hoilman, sisters, Alpha Lee Hughes, Lotus Hughes and Verlaine Hoilman. 

She is survived by her loving husband, Dallas Wilson Young, sons, Terry (Mary) Young; Gary (friend, Wanda Vance); Dale (Bertha) Young; and CG (Sherry) Young; four daughters; Anita (Claude) McKinney; Patty (Doug) Lloyd; Susie (Joe) Johnson, and Leanna Young; fourteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; brothers, Jack Hoilman, Herman Hoilman, Ted Hoilman, and Fred Hoilman, and two sisters, Nora Johnson and Sharon Ward. 

An amazing woman Barbara was an inspiration to many and leaved behind a legacy of family, strength, and love. She lived her life for family and adopted many people as kin. Barbara treated all that walked through her door as family and saw that no one left her home hungry. We miss her so much, but we are sure she will keep the flowerbeds in Heaven just perfect. 

Visitation for Barbara Hoilman Young will be held at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Newland on Wednesday, February 19 from 5-7 PM. Funeral services will be held at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral on Thursday, February 20 at 2 PM. Burial will follow at the Upper Cemetery on Roaring Creek.
