Brenda Ann Banner, age 66, of Boone passed away on Saturday, August 04, 2012 at Watauga Medical Center.

She was born Wednesday, October 17, 1945 a daughter of Charles Gather and Billie Brown Hubbard.

Brenda has left to cherish her memory her: son, Richard Banner of Clemmons, NC; daughter, LaVern Devoe of Elizabethton; granddaughters, Kayla Banner of Elizabethton, TN, Megan Banner of Winton Salem, NC, Georja Devoe of Hampton, TN, Sarah Banner of Winston Salem, NC, Tara Banner of Mount Arie, NC; 7 great grandchildren.

Arlard “Al” Gray, D. Aug. 6, 2012
Arlard “Al” Aubry Gray, age 87, of Newland passed away on Monday, August 06, 2012 at Cannon Memorial Hospital.

He was born Thursday, August 06, 1925 a son of the late Samuel and Mildred Marshall Gray.

Arlard was a member of the United States Navy and served during WWII.

He worked as a carpenter and enjoyed gardening, raising pumpkins, baseball cards, bird feeding, playing cards, fishing and loved watching baseball.

Along with his parents, Arlard was preceded in death by his: wife, Ola Mae Benfield; 4 brothers, 1 sister.

Arlard has left to cherish his memory his: daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Michael Hamby of Newland; grand daughters, Carrie Hamby and Michelle Hamby both of Newland; special child in his life, Ashley Clark; son, Robert Gray of New Hampshire; daughter, Debbie Gray of New Hampshire; brothers, Chester Gray, Ervin Gray, Wilbur Gray all of New Hampshire.

Funeral services for Arlard Aubry Gray will be conducted on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at 8:00 pm at the Grandfather Chapel with Rev. Barry Sheppard officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until the service hour. Interment will be Friday, August 10th at 11:00 a.m. in the Fork Mountain Cemetery.

Beatrice Banner, D. Aug. 5, 2012
Beatrice Teague Banner, age 100, of Newland passed away on Sunday, August 05, 2012 at her residence.

She was born Monday, October 09, 1911 a daughter of the late Robert Tilden and Margaret Shearin Teague.

Beatrice was the oldest member of First Baptist Church Newland where she had been a member since 1925 and was a Sunday School Teacher and Organist/Pianist.

She was instrumental in forming the Avery County Library and was an active member and past officer of the Order of the Eastern Star, Mistress of the Mountains Chapter 24.

Along with her parents, Beatrice was preceded in death by her: husband, Robert Martin Banner; sisters, Margaret Phillips, Eloise Cobb; brothers, Shearin and R.T. Teague, Jr.; daughter, Gaynelle Wilson; son, Samuel Teague Banner; .

A very kind, gentle and loving person, Beatrice has left to cherish her memory her: sisters, Sallie T. Fletcher and husband Ragland of Newland, Millicent Teague Kelly and husband Spencer T. of Baltimore, MD; Nancy T. Moore and husband Richard of Pineville, NC; brother, L. Owen Teague and wife Barbara of Newland; 3 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews

Funeral services for Beatrice Teague Banner will be conducted on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church Newland with Dr. Bill Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Newland Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the services.

Amos Walsh, D. Aug. 5, 2012
Amos Lee Walsh, age 85, of Elk Park passed away on Sunday, August 05, 2012.

A native of Avery County, he was born Wednesday, April 06, 1927 a son of the late Jud and Flora Cook Walsh.

He was a member of the Beech Mountain Baptist Church and was a Mason.

Amos enjoyed playing the guitar and was very musically inclined. He also enjoyed gardening and being with his grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by: his wife of over 60 years, Agnes Ruby Walsh; and a brother, Bert Walsh.

Amos’s focus was his family, whom he has left to cherish his memory: his four children, Becky Waits of Ann Arbor, MI, Diana Walsh of Detroit, MI, Jill Corich of Deaborn, MI, Lee Walsh of Sterling Heights, MI; brothers and sisters, Mary Ellen Peters of Elizabethton, TN,. Kate Braswell of Baltimore, MD, Lester Walsh of Athens, TN, J.D. Walsh of Elizabethton, TN, Royce Walsh of Pickens, SC, Phil Walsh of Kingston, TN, Glen Walsh of Elk Park, NC; four grandchildren; one great grandchild.

Funeral services for Amos Lee Walsh will be conducted on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at 8:00 pm at the Grandfather Chapel with Rev. Dennis Church officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until the service hour. Interment will be Thursday, August 9th 11:00 a.m. in the Becch Mountain Cemetery.

Missy Eggers Ramsey, age 46 , of Banner Elk passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2012.

She was born in Catawba County, NC on April 15, 1966 a daughter of the late Mack V. and Mary Alice Flowers Eggers.

Missy was a member of the Banner Elk Methodist Church.

She worked as the Store Manager for the Salvation Army Store in Foscoe, NC where she embraced the mission of the Salvation Army. She loved her customers was they loved her.

Missy was a member and past President of the Banner Elk Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. She loved children and was a second mother to all of her nieces and nephews. She was also a member of “The Giggle Gang” Clown ministry.

Missy has left to cherish her memory her: husband, Mark Ramsey of the home; son, Sky DeJesus Ramsey of the home; sisters, Terri Eggers of Hickory, NC, Beth Shomaker and husband Bill of San Antonio, TX., Alice Stone and husband Gary of Gray, TN; brother, Butch Eggers of Lenoir, NC; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Missy Eggers Ramsey will be conducted on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 3:00 pm at the Banner Elk Methodist Church with Rev. Dan Brubaker, Lt. Michal Chapman, Capt. Michael Harris, Rev. George Wright officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour.
