Ruby Phillips Byland, D. March 1, 2012

Ruby Phillips Byland, age 89 of Boone went to be with her heavenly father on Thursday, March 1, 2012.

Ruby was born January 24, 1923, a daughter of the late Vester and Alice Winebarger Phillips. The widow of Earl Byland who passed away February 25th, 1981. She loved to garden in her flowers, visit the shut-ins, but most of all she loved going to church. She was a member of Pilot Mountain Baptist Church in Boone.

In addition to her husband, and father and mother, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucy Howell, Edna Moretz, and Holly Tugman.

She survived by two daughters, Judy Byland and Janet Blevins and husband Edgar all of Boone, one grandson, Joseph “Joey” Blevins of Morganton, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Byland will be Saturday March 3, 2012 at 2:00 o’clock at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Reverend Paul Coffey. Burial will follow in the Pilot Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday March 3, 2012 from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock prior to the service in Hampton Funeral Home Chapel.

Clyde Styke Elliot, D. March 2, 2012

Mrs. Clyde Stike Elliott, 84, of Warrensville, NC died Friday, March 2, 2012 at her daughter’s home. Mrs. Elliott was born on September 14, 1927 in Ashe County, to Elzie Worth and Bessie Eldreth Stike. Mrs. Elliott was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Junior Carl Elliott, three brothers and one sister. Mrs. Elliott was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church. She loved gardening, cooking and sewing.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Oak Hill Baptist Church by J. C. Darnell & Rex Eldreth. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Badger Funeral Home.

Daughter: Lois Barker and husband Dexter of Warrensville

Mina G. Jones, D. March 4, 2012

Mrs. Mina G. Jones, age 90, of 824 Russ Norris Road, Elk Park, died Sunday morning, March 4, 2012.

Mina was a lifelong resident of Avery County. She was a friend to all. She will be sorely missed by her family, friends and community.

Mina was almost 91 years old and was homebound for the last year. She was a member of Flat Springs Baptist Church and enjoyed having Prayer Meetings and Gospel Singings in her home.

Mina made beautiful rugs and quilts, and loved gardening, canning, and cooking. Her specialty was her flowers. Her yard is always a prize winner. Everyone should have a “Mina” in their life. Heaven is a little sweeter today.

Mrs. Jones is survived by three daughters, Doris Whittington and husband Bill of Jasper, Indiana, Cloyce Hagie and husband Wade of Deerborne, Michigan, and Pauline Allison and husband Brad of Roxboro, North Carolina; one son, Larry Jones and wife Tammie of Elk Park; one daughter-in-law, Juanita Jones; one son-in-law, David Harmon and wife Julia; five sisters-in-law, Annis Hagaman of Sugar Grove, Martha Jones of Elk Park, Margie Jones and Jean Jones, both of Taylorsville, and Edlee Guy of Newland; ten grandchildren, Renee Whittington Boyer and husband Brian, Kevin Whittington and wife Tammy, Billy Whittington and wife Lena, Teresa Jones, Sharon Jones, Wade Hagie, Jr. and wife Charlotte, Tammy Allison Rice and husband Leon, Lisa Allison Powell and husband Troy, Steven Allison, and Christie Jones Sellers and husband Aaron; sixteen great-grandchildren, Joey Boyer and wife Ellie, April Boyer, Nathan Jones, Anthony Jones, Leah Jones, Timothy Hagie, Elisabeth Hagie, Philip Hagie, Rachel Hagie, Bryce, Caroline, Nick, and Ben Whittington, Corey Rice, Mandy Rice, and Brady Sellers, and two great great-grandsons, Hayden Boyer and Brenden Boyer. She is also survived by numerous wonderful nephews, nieces, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Danton Jones; one son, Wade Jones; one daughter, Alma Harmon; one grandson, Raleigh Bradford Allison, Jr.; her father and mother, Emery and Lula Guy; three sisters, Lona, Susie, and Della, and two brothers, Clay and Fred.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mina G. Jones will be conducted Thursday afternoon, March 8, 2012, at 2:00 o’clock, at Flat Springs Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Reverend Tim Green and Reverend Bryan Miller. Burial will follow in the Flat Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, from 6:00 until 8:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Service. At other times, friends may call at the home, 824 Russ Norris Road, Elk Park.

Joseph Alan Adams, D. March 5, 2012

Mr. Joseph Alan Adams age 48, of Jefferson, NC died Monday, March 5, 2012 at his home. Mr. Adams was born on April 13, 1963 in Ashe County, to James Joseph and Lydia Howell Adams. Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his mother.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at 3:00 pm at the Silas Creek Baptist Church by Rev. Bill Guy. Burial will follow in Sexton Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 pm prior to the service.

Helen Parsons Dollar, D. March 5, 2012

Mrs. Helen Irene Parsons Dollar age 86, of Jefferson, NC died Monday, March 5, 2012 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Dollar was born February 24, 1926 in Ashe County to Robert and Leonna Leek Parsons. Mrs. Dollar was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Charles Lee Dollar, 1 sister and 1 brother. Mrs. Dollar was a member of Smethport United Methodist Church. She loved sewing and making quilts. She loved spending time with people and her pet cat.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Charles McCoy. Burial will follow in the Lewis Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm prior to the service.

Mrs. Dollar is survived by:

2 Sons – Robert Roark of Lansing & Larry Dollar of Crumpler

1 Sister – Deane Fox of Lenoir

Care giver – Jennifer Black

4 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 1 step-granddaughter, 1 step-great-grandson, 4 great great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
