Loretta Neal Taylor Neaves, D. Oct. 6, 2012
Mrs. Loretta Neal Taylor Neaves, age 73, of Crumpler, passed away Saturday morning, October 6, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at 2:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wayne Jones and Speaker Christopher Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Howell-Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00-pm on Tuesday, two hours prior to the funeral service.

Mrs. Neaves was born in Ashe County on Monday, March 27, 1939 to the late Wiley Everett and Ollie Mae Chatham Taylor. She worked at Pendry’s Mfg. Company. She was a member at New River Baptist Church. She was known for her good cooking and her wonderful hugs. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She will be missed by all.

She is survived by, her husband, Scott Neaves; a son, Michael Neaves and wife, Tonya, of Sparta; a daughter, Christine Cruz, of Jefferson; two brothers, Dallas Taylor and Dean Taylor, both of Jefferson; three sisters, Jean Cockerham and Wylene Fitzgerald, both of Wilkesboro and Marie Setzler, of Ohio; three grandchildren, Preston Osborne, Amanda Osborne and Justin Neaves; four great-grandchildren; a special friend, Jerry Eller, of Crumpler; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Flowers accepted or memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

A special thank you to Jerry Eller for her care and help through a difficult time.

The family will be meeting at the home place: 117 Walnut Cove Lane in Crumpler.

Mary Church Miller, Oct. 5, 2012.
Mrs. Mary Church Miller, age 89, of West Jefferson, NC died on Friday, October 5, 2012 at Margate Health and Rehab in Jefferson, NC. Mrs. Miller was born on May 28, 1923 in Ashe County, NC to the late Wiley Everette Church and Myrtle Ann McNeill Church.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, John Tallon Miller; brothers, Charlie Church, James Roy Church, Howard Church, William Church, and Robert Lee Church; and a sister, Vergie Baker. Mrs. Miller was a homemaker and enjoyed flowers, watching birds, working in the garden, and gospel music.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at 3:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Russell Sheets and Rev. Jack Miller. Burial followed in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.

The family received friends from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.

Mrs. Miller is survived by: Son, John Miller, Jr. of Rural Hall, Son, Warren Miller of West Jefferson, Daughter, Mary Francis McGuire of West Jefferson, Sister, Lucy Michael of Lenoir; also surviving are four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Nellie Crepps Walters

Nell Crepps Walters, D. Oct. 4, 2012
Mrs. Nellie “Nell” Crepps Walters age 83, of West Jefferson, NC died on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at the Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Walters was born on May 15, 1929 in Ashe County to John and Beatrice Dancy Crepps.

Mrs. Walters was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Bower Walters, her son, Jimmy Bower Walters and all her brothers and sisters. Mrs. Walters loved to cook, quilt and sew. She enjoyed being with her family.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Harvey Bauman. Burial will follow in Big Ridge Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at Badger Funeral Home. Mrs. Walters is survived by: 4 Sons: Don Walters & Chris Walters both of West Jefferson, Ray Walters of Mtn. City, TN & Keith Walters of Laurel Springs 1 Daughter: Sandra Turner of Yadkinville 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Ronald Tyler Cannell, D. Oct. 3, 2012
Mr. Ronald Tyler Cannell, better known as Ron, age 87, of Lansing passed away Wednesday morning, October 3, 2012 at his home.

Memorial service will be held Saturday October 13, 2012 at 2:00pm at Bald Mountain Baptist Church with Rev. Lawrence Goodman officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm, one hour prior to the memorial service.

Mr. Cannell was born in Norristown, PA on January 28, 1925 to the late Jacob and Anna Garner Cannell. He was a director at the YMCA.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Wood Cannell; a son, Wayne Cannell, of Lansing; two daughters, Marjorie Shinkle, of Lansing and Marty Wetherhold, of Lansing; a son-in-law, Erwin Shinkle of Crumpler; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Bobby Hamm, age 42 of West Jefferson passed away Wednesday evening at Wilkes Regional Medical Center.

Graveside service will be held Thursday at 2:00pm at Jefferson City Cemetery with Rev. Kirby McNeil officiating.
