Wilma Woods

Mrs. Wilma Jean Woods, age 61, of Lansing passed away Sunday morning, November 4, 2012 at her mother’s home.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at 2:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Shepherd, Rev. Gene Shepherd and Rev. Bud Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow in the Wyatt Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00pm on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at Boone Family Funeral Home.

Mrs. Woods was born in Ashe County on Sunday, December 24, 1950 to the late Eugene “Gee” Woods and Thelma Wyatt Woods. She worked at Sara Lee Knit Products until the closing of the plant. She was a member of Harvest Time Ministries in North Wilkesboro.

Wilma had a love for life. She enjoyed being outdoors, deer hunting and fishing. She enjoyed being with people especially the young children. She never met a stranger. She was a loving daughter, sister, mother and grandmother. She will be missed by all.

She is survived by a son, Gregory Lee Richardson, of West Jefferson; a daughter, Cindy Richardson Shatley and husband, Kevin, of Jefferson; her mother, Thelma Woods, of Lansing; three sisters, Bonnie Woods, of Lansing, Nancy Miller and husband, Lloyd, of Fleetwood and Robin Brown and husband, Jerry, of West Jefferson; two grandchildren, Chance Shatley and Alexa Shatley; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Ethel Phillips Eldreth

Ethel Phillips Eldreth, D. Oct. 31, 2012
Mrs. Ethel Phillips Eldreth, age 95, of Warrensville died on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at her home. Mrs. Eldreth was born on November 6, 1916 in Ashe County to the late Rev. William Hiram and Catherine Canter Phillips. Mrs. Eldreth was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Arthur Eldreth, grandson, Barry Eldreth, grandson, Thomas Dean Phillips, son-in-law, Wayne Rash, four brothers and three sisters. Mrs. Eldreth was a homemaker. She loved spending time with her family and her church family and enjoyed talking to people. She was a member of Phoenix Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Tom Graybeal and Rev. Jeff Dollar. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, November 2, 2012 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.

Mrs. Eldreth is survived by: Son, Rev. Bluferd Eldreth and wife Shirley of Jefferson; Daughter, Dare Rash of North Wilkesboro; Daughter, Thelma Phillips and husband Carroll of Fleetwood; Daughter, Cecile Eldreth and husband Johnnny of Warrensville; Daughter, Geraldine Lambert and husband Ernie of Havlock; Sister, Esther Chaney and husband Ed of High Point; also surviving are ten grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; her caregiver, Nancy Nichols.

Joanne Pugh Blackburn, D. Oct. 30, 2012
Mrs. Joanne Pugh Blackburn, age 75, of Crumpler passed away Tuesday evening, October 30, 2012 at her home.

Memorial service will be held Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 3pm at Boone Family Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Jones, rev. Billy Joe Blevins, and Speakers Mikael Blevins and Cypress Taylor.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2-3pm at Boone Family Funeral Home.

Mrs. Blackburn was born in Ashe County on Sunday, June 6, 1937 to the late Gerome Horton and Mary Phipps Pugh. She was a Homemaker. She was a member of New River Baptist Church, where she played the piano for over 55 years.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harold Kay Blackburn on October 15, 2009 and a sister Winnie Jones.

Mrs. Blackburn is survived by a son, Tony Blackburn, of Crumpler; three daughters, Mona Blevins and husband, David, of Grassy Creek, Edwina Parsons and husband, Perry, of West Jefferson and Heather Holdaway and husband Jason, of West Jefferson; two brothers, Lida Pugh, of Jefferson and Rev. Jack Pugh, of West Jefferson; two sisters, Cora Young, of Grassy Creek and Mozelle Brinegar, of West Jefferson; 11 grandchildren Jessica Blackburn, Vanessa Denny, Sarah Blackburn, Mark Blackburn, Andy Blevins, Mikael Blevins, Zach Blevins, Brittany Parsons, Taylor Parsons, Cypress Taylor and Lincoln Holdaway; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Joseph Alva Zarate, D. Oct. 28, 2012.
Joseph Alva Zarate age 73, of West Jefferson, NC died Sunday, October 28, 2012 at this home. Mr Zarate was born on April 19, 1939 in Fort Worth, TX to Sotero and Librada Alva Zarate. Mr. Zarate was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Zarate served nine years in the US Navy onboard submarines.

Funeral mass will be held on Friday, November 2, 2012 at 11:00 am at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Greensboro at 2715 Horse Pen Creek Rd. by Father John Allen Jr.

Mr. Zarate is survived by: His wife: Barbara-Ann Zarate, 4 daughters: Jennifer Zarate, Daphne Doran, Mary Nichole Zarate & Audia Zarate, 2 sons: Michael Zarate & Mark Zarate, 6 Grandchildren: Taylor Zarate, Sean Doran, Anthony Joseph Fasceon, Christopher Doran, Brianna Zarate & Matthew Zarate, 5 brothers and sisters & several nieces and nephews.
