Ward Miller, D. Nov. 12, 2012
Mr. Ward Marshel Miller, age 74, of West Jefferson passed away Monday morning, November 12, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Calvary Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Sonny Thomas and Rev. Russell Sheets officiating. Burial will follow in the Calvary Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Calvary Freewill Baptist Church
Mr. Miller was born in Ashe County on Tuesday, January 4, 1938 to the late Joe and Cordie Bowlin Miller. He started making cabinets in 1968 and did all the wood work in his church, Calvary Freewill Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing in church.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Miller, Gilbert Miller and Sebert Miller.
Mr. Miller is survived by his wife , of 54 years of marriage, Dare Sheets Miller; two brothers, Delmar Miller, of Glendale Springs and Wade Miller, of Millers Creek; three sisters, Faye Dixon , of China Grove, NC, Evazell Crews, of Todd and Shirley Jones, of Glendale Springs; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Benjamin Davis Bingham, D. Nov. 11, 2012
Mr. Benjamin Davis Bingham, better known as “Benny”, age 70 of West Jefferson died Sunday afternoon, November 11, 2012 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Boone Family Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Morris and Brother Earl Sheets officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens with masonic rites.
The Bingham family will receive friends Thursday from 12 to 2 p.m., two hours prior to the funeral services.
Mr. Bingham was born in Watauga County on Saturday, February 14, 1942 to the late William Paul Bingham and Edith Mast Bingham. He was a graduate of Lees-McRae College. He served in the United States Air Force. He was also a member of the Ashe Masonic Lodge #594. He was known for his work on repairing clocks, and jewelry.
Mr. Bingham is survived by; two daughters; Christina Phillips and husband David of Laurel Springs, and Jane McNeill and husband Jon of Fleetwood; one sister; Barbara Roland of West Jefferson; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and three nieces; Sherrie Hodges and husband Dayne, Shannon Pham and husband Andy, and Shawn Frank and husband Scott.

Irene Payne Richardson, Nov. 10, 2012
Mrs. Irene Payne Richardson age 82, of Jefferson, NC died Saturday, November 10, 2012 at the Margate Health & Rehab Center in Jefferson, NC.
Mrs. Richardson was born on July 27, 1930 in Mountain. City, Tenn., to the late Roy Clyde and Hettie Curd Payne. In addition to her parents Mrs. Richardson was preceded in death by her brother, Earl Payne. Mrs. Richardson was a member of Sugar Tree Baptist Church. She retired from Sprague after many years of service.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jim Greer and Rev. Homer Vanover. Entombment will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum of Prayer. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 prior to the service.

Mr. Hershel Elbert Kerr, Jr., age 68, of Jefferson died Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Ashe Memorial Hospital.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at 2:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Keith Casey and Rev. Harry Osborne officiating. Burial will follow in the Powers Cemetery with military rites.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm on Sunday, one hour prior to the funeral service.
Mr. Kerr was born in Booneville, Arkansas on November 21, 1943 to the late Hershel Kerr, Sr. and Joella Roberts. He served in the United States Army.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Miller Kerr, of the home; four sons; Fred Greer and wife Kelly of Ohio, Darwin Kerr and wife Lynn of Supply, NC, Mark Kerr of Sanford, and Ronnie Barwick and wife Judy of Florida; four daughters; Sheila Blevins and husband Tim of West Jefferson, Anna Stockdale and husband Don of Fayetteville, Tina Anderson of Florida, and Cheryl Barwick of Florida; one brother; Dale Kerr and wife Joanne of Fleetwood; three sisters; Bonnie Bundy and husband Terry of Red Springs, NC, Louella Baker of Fayetteville, and Sandy Anders and husband Pete of Washington; sixteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
