Ruth Blevins Blackburn, D. May 1, 2012

Mrs. Ruth Blevins Blackburn age 84, of Lansing, died on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at the Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem, NC. Mrs. Blackburn was born on November 11, 1927 in Ashe County to the late Arthur and Lela Massey Blevins. Mrs. Blackburn was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Paul Blevins, Fred Blevins, Robert Blevins, sister, Mary Oliver and her husband Mackajune Blackburn. Mrs. Blackburn took pride in her home and  her family.  Mrs. Blackburn loved her church family and was a member of Landmark Baptist Church. First and foremost she loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 4, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Charles McCoy and Rev. Tommy Worth. Burial will follow in Howell Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm on Friday, May 4, 2012 at Badger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Blackburn is survived by: one daughter, Ann Blackburn Huffman and husband Rev. Allen of Jefferson, four brothers, Dean Blevins, R. L.  Blevins, Rex Blevins and Larry Blevins all of Lansing, two sisters, Faye Testerman of Grassy Creek and Burl Carter of Lansing, three grandchildren, Allen Huffman Jr., Angela Dolinger & Amy Huffman, four great-grandchildren, Krissy Johnson, Jamie Dolinger, Sean Huffman and Brent Mash, one great- great granddaughter, Ruby Johnson, also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Landmark Baptist Church or Howell Hill Cemetery Fund.

Larry Dean Hamm, Jr., D. April 28, 2012

Mr. Larry Dean Hamm, Jr. better known as “Dean”, age 44, of Lansing passed away Saturday morning, April 28, 2012 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 11:00am at Boone Family Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Johnson and Rev. Tommy Dollar officiating. Burial will follow in the Brown Cemetery in Rich Hill.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 1, 2012 from 6:30-8:30pm at Boone Family Funeral Home.

Mr. Hamm was born in Havre de Grace, Maryland on Saturday, October 7, 1967 to the Larry and Margaret Richards Ham. He was a member of Bethel Church, where he loved to do work for the Lord. He had a love of painting pictures and making crafts. He also enjoyed collecting lighthouses.

He is survived by his wife, of 20 years of marriage, Janet Barker Hamm, ; one son; Jacob Earl Hamm of Lansing; Parents; Larry and Margaret Ham of Creston; one brother; Michael Lee Hamm of Lincolnton; one sister; Cindy Hamm Johnson of West Jefferson; mother-in-law; Wilma Barker of Lansing; sister-in-law; Betty Miller of Jefferson; several aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive.

Lucy Pearl Lambert Darnell, D. April 27, 2012

Mrs. Lucy Pearl Lambert Darnell  age 90, of Jefferson, NC died on Friday, April 27, 2012 at Margate Health & Rehab Center in Jefferson. Mrs. Darnell was born on December 14, 1921 in Ashe County to Arthur and Ada Taylor Mullis. Mrs. Darnell was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul Eugene Lambert,  second husband, Charlie Lambert, daughter, Betty Dillard, son, Tommy Lambert and great grandchild, Shaun Harless. Mrs. Darnell loved to cook for her family. She loved to quilt and grow her flowers.  She loved going to church until her health prevented her from going.  While in Villages of Ashe and Margate she attended church services as much as she could.  Pearl was a dedicated Christian woman who loved her family and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 30, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Bristol Baptist Church by Rev. Billy Joe Blevins, Rev. Mark Harless. Burial will follow in Wallace Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at Badger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Darnell is survived by:

2 Sons: Billy Dean Lambert of Jefferson, & Gary Lambert of Millers Creek

1 Daughter: Barbara Hale of Sevierville, TN,

1 step son, Rev. J.C. Darnell of Warrensville

2 step daughters: Percilla Little of Warrensville &, Loretta Sharpe of Lansing

also surviving are  9 grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren,  16 great-grandchildren, 3 step great-grandchildren, 11 great- great -grandchildren, 5 step great- great -grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Rickey Lynn Dollar, D. April 26, 2012

Mr. Rickey Lynn Dollar age 55, of Warrensville, NC died Thursday, April 26, 2012 at his home.  Mr. Dollar was born on August 19, 1956 in Ashe County to Thomas Jack and Eula Elliott Dollar. Mr. Dollar was preceded in death by his father. Mr. Dollar loved fishing, hunting and playing guitar.  He was known as “Papa Rick” by his grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at 3:00 pm at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Lloyd Day, Rev. J. D. Walton & Rev. Jeff Dollar. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Badger Funeral Home.

Della Ray Calhoun Joslin, D. April 25, 2012

Mrs. Della Ray Calhoun Joslin, age 85, of West Jefferson passed away Wednesday afternoon at Ashe Living Assisted Center & Memory Care.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Memory Garden Memorial Park in Brea, California.

Mrs. Joslin is survived by:

1 daughter          Marty Thompson of Merita, CA

1 sister  Tressie Darnell of West Jefferson

2 grandsons; 2 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Alvin Harley Denny, Jr., D. April 25, 2012

Mr. Alvin Harley Denny, Jr., age 86, of Lansing passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at 2:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Larry Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery with military rites.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00pm on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Boone Family Funeral Home.

Mr. Denny was born in Ashe County on June 12, 1925 to the late Alvin Denny, Sr. and Mary Denny. He was a Charter member of Lansing Fire Department, Member of American Legion, and VFW. He also served in the Arm Forces during WWII.

He is preceded in death by a brother; Wayne Denny.

He is survived by a special friend; Betty West; one brother; Dale Denny and wife Poodle of High Point; two sisters; Doris Glass and husband Herman of Johnson City, TN, and Nell Shepherd and husband Leroy of Darlington, MD.

Mary Lee Hartman, D. April 24, 2012

Mrs. Mary Lee Hartman, age 83, of Thomasville, formerly of West Jefferson passed away Wednesday night, April 24, 2012 at Pine Ridge Health and Rehabilitation center in Thomasville.

Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 2:00pm at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Winston-Salem with Rev. Charlie Martin officiating.

Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at 2:00pm at West Jefferson City Cemetery with Rev. Ken Morris officiating.

Mrs. Hartman was born in Forsyth County on Thursday, June 7, 1928 to the late William Roosevelt Adams and Minnie Blevins. She was a member of West Jefferson United Methodist Church and also worked in office at Sears.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Oliver Hartman.

Mrs. Hartman is survived by two sons; James Hartman and wife Marian of Cary, NC, and Thomas Lee Hartman and wife Debbie of West Jefferson; one daughter; Cynthia Dillard and husband John of Thomasville; two brothers; Jimmy Adams of Winston Salem, and Jack Adams of Winston Salem; three sisters; Peggy Joyner of Mocksville, Ethel Barber of Winston Salem, and Linda Cantrell of Clemmons; three grandchildren; Matthew Dillard and Jess Dillard of Thomasville, and Tara Gud of Charlotte; one great grandchild; Kyrie Pennington of Charlotte.
