Miss Violet Esther Vannoy, age 94, of Fleetwood, died Wednesday night, May 30, 2012 at Ashe Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 3, 2012 at 2:00 at Boone Family Funeral Home with Rev. Martha Kincaid officiating. Burial will follow in the Fleetwood Community Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday, June 3, 2012 from 1-2pm at Boone Family Funeral Home.
Miss Vannoy was born in Ashe County on Wednesday, April 10, 1918 to Elton Lee Vannoy and Vera Belle Moretz.
She is preceded in death by a brother; Winfred Vannoy, and two sisters; Christine Leonard, and Iris Watson.
Miss Vannoy is survived by two brothers; Leonard Vannoy and wife Nellie of Winston Salem, and Jay Vannoy and wife Jane of Winston Salem; one sister; Dawn Houck of Fleetwood; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Nona Testerman Hamm Hart age 97, of West Jefferson, NC died Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville, NC. Mrs. Hart was born on December 17, 1914 in Ashe County to Omer and Chloe Waddell Testerman. Mrs. Hart was preceded in death by her parents and husbands, Paul Hamm and Robert Hart.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Howell Hill Cemetery by Rev. Mitchell Rash.
Mrs. Hart is survived by:
1 Son, William Hamm of Statesville
1 half brother, Walter Testerman of Crumpler
2 half sisters, Ruth Blackburn of West Jefferson & Lorraine Myers of Jefferson
3 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Mary Carolyn Allen, age 63, of Jefferson passed away Tuesday morning, May 29, 2012 at her home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 11:00am at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lonnie Pruitt officiating. Burial will follow in the Roan Creek Cemetery.
Mrs. Allen was born in Ashe County on Friday, January 7, 1949 to Francis Clifton (Cliff) and Ruby Craven Allen. She was owner and operator at Mary Allen Interiors and later she was a real estate broker for Century 21 in Banner Elk.
She is survived by her parents, Cliff and Ruby Allen of Jefferson; a brother, James Clifton Allen, of Jefferson; a niece, Korissa Marie Allen, of Sarasota, Florida; a nephew, Cameron James Allen and wife, Ashley, of Laurel Springs; a great niece, Rylee Allen also survive.

Betty Lou Ellen Taylor Lambert, D. May 29, 2012
Mrs. Betty Lou Ellen Taylor Lambert, age 68, of West Jefferson passed away Tuesday morning, May 29, 2012 at Ashe Memorial Hospital.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 1, 2012 1:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy McClure officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Home Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11:00-1:00pm on Friday, two hours prior to the funeral service.
Mrs. Lambert was born in Ashe County on Sunday, December 5, 1943 to the late Robert Blaine and Bessie Cleo Billings Taylor. She worked at Pendry’s Mfg. and Mister Casual’s Mfg. early part of her life, later she worked as a CNA for Ashe Services for Aging. She loved to play the piano; go to auctions and visit with her friends. She was a member of Pleasant Home Baptist Church.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Ann Taylor.
She is survived by a son, David Lambert, of Boone; a daughter, Susie Hoosier and husband, David, of West Jefferson; three brothers, Robert Clay Taylor, of Bristol, VA, Herbert Ray Taylor and wife, Jane, of Dallas, NC and Larry Payton Taylor and wife, Ruby, of Sparta, NC; a granddaughter, Heather Hoosier; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Lorraine Stansberry Ham, age 81, of Lansing, died Monday morning, May 28, 2012 at her residence.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 3:00pm at Lansing Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ken Morris and Rev. Dwight Barker officiating. Burial will follow in the Stansberry Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 30, 2012 from 2:00-3:00pm at Lansing Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Ham was born in Ashe County on Saturday, December 20, 1930 to the late Edgar Ray and Edith Elizabeth Greer Stansberry. She was a member of Lansing Presbyterian Church and organized Christmas gifts, food and clothing projects, as she directed this program for nearly 40 years.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Dewitt Stansberry, and a sister, LenaMae Roland.
She is survived by two sons; Robert Ham of Lansing, and Roger Ham and wife Louise of Lansing; three daughters; Rebecca Chrisawn and husband Darrell of West Jefferson, Patricia Childress and husband James of Jefferson, and Leisa Powell and husband Todd of West Jefferson; one sister Polly Johnson of Honolulu, Hawaii; ten grandchildren; Andrea Morgan, Travis Chrisawn, Allison Shoemake, Ethan Chrisawn, Robert Ham, Jr., Stacey Howell, Matt Ham, Heather C. Campbell, Sydney Powell, and Griffin Powell; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Frazier was born in Ashe County on Sunday, November 4, 1923 to the late Mack Daniel Mullis and Julia Hodge.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, Robert L. Frazier and Blan Hill Greene; one brother, Robert H. Mullis; and one sister, Virginia May Carr.
She is survived by two daughters, Ann McNeill and husband Tony of Raleigh, and Sandy Grubb and husband Jeff of West Jefferson; one sister; Lillian Miller of West Jefferson; four grandchildren; Troy McNeill and wife Kerry of Asheville, Scott Grubb and wife Jodi of West Jefferson, Justin Grubb and wife Tiffany of West Jefferson, and Hollie Brown and husband Kevin of West Jefferson; eight great-grandchildren; Kate, Julia, Thomas and Lauren McNeill; Sydney Kate, and Hallie Grubb; and Jake and Peyton Grubb; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Sullivan is preceded in death by her husband, Odell Sullivan.
She is survived by her one son; Bill Sullivan and wife Marie of Warrensville; three daughters; Betty Hayter and husband Tommy of Abingdon, VA, Nancy Lethcoe and husband Ed of Conover, and Sue Dalton and husband Bob of Yadkinville; one sister; Ruth Clark of Elkton, Maryland; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Grover Cleo Hagans, age 71, of Todd, NC died on Monday, May 21, 2012 at his home. Mr. Hagans was born on April 1, 1941 in Madison County, NC to Andy and Gladys Burns Hagans. Mr. Hagans was preceded in death by his father, his wife, Lois Greer Hagans, and a sister, Ruth Pittman. An Army veteran, Mr. Hagans worked as a machinist with Cannon Mills.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at 1:00 pm at the Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery by Rev. Lloyd Day with interment to follow.
Mr. Hagans is survived by: son, David Hagans of Kannapolis, NC; mother, Gladys Hagans of Hot Springs, NC; three brothers, Denton Hagans, Curtis Hagans of Marion, NC, and Marvin Hagans of Hot Springs, NC; three sisters, Kathleen Powlas of China Grove, NC, Jean Teal of Kannapolis, NC, and Phyllis Duffel of Hot Springs, NC; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Severt was born in Watauga County on Monday, September 5, 1949 to the late Joseph Allen and Opal Rhymer Miller. She was a member of North Beaver Baptist Church. She worked in sewing textile most of her life but recently she worked as a cook at the Ashe County Jail. She was a kind person always putting other people before herself. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She will be missed by all!
She is survived by her husband, of 42 years of marriage, Russell G. Severt, of West Jefferson; a son, Rusty Severt and wife, Debbie, of Jefferson; a daughter, Amy Gregory and husband, David, of North Wilkesboro; two brothers, Boyd Miller, of Deep Gap and Barry Miller, of Davenport, VA; two grandchildren, Dylan R. Severt, of Jefferson and Peyton Gregory, of North Wilkesboro; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Parker was born in Avery County on Tuesday, November 11, 1919 to the late Howard Wilson and Dalie Cornett. She was a Homemaker. She enjoyed cooking. She also loved dogs, especially two toy poodles “Buck” and “Angel”.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Charles Denver Howell.
Mrs. Parker is survived by her husband, of 60 years of marriage, Edgar Tivis Parker; a grandson, Charles Howell of Wilkesboro; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Alice Weaver Bare, age 88, of West Jefferson, NC died on Friday, May 18, 2012 at her home. Mrs. Bare was born on December 7, 1923 in Ashe County, NC to David Wilson “Dave” Weaver and Gwynne Koontz Weaver. Mrs. Bare was preceded in death by her husband, Wade Albert Bare; sisters, Faye Long, Maxine Wyrick, Lib Wyrick, and Geneva Vannoy. Mrs. Bare was a loyal member of Smethport United Methodist Church. Her many interests included visiting flea markets and yard sales, sewing, and enjoying delicious food. She was an avid doll collector and enjoyed playing the piano and singing with her sisters and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 3:00 pm at the Smethport United Methodist Church by Rev. Greg Plott. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum of Prayer.

Mr. Joe Howard Woods age 69, of Warrensville, died on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at his home. Mr. Woods was born on March 16, 1943 in Ashe County to John Oscar and Martha Katherine Baker Woods. Mr. Woods was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Peggy Lea Hartsoe Woods. Mr. Woods was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church where he served as deacon for many years. He retired after 39 years of service from United Chemi-Con. Most of all Joe enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Joey McClure, Minister Danny Miller and Rev. Fred Richardson. Burial will follow in Staggs Creek Community Cemetery.

Mr. Wesley Elder Laasch age 79, of Lansing, NC died Monday, May 14, 2012 at the Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Laasch was born December 18, 1932 in Jacksonville, FL to Alfred Mearl and Doris Estes Laasch. Mr. Laasch was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Laasch was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a ham radio operator, he loved to fly model airplanes, hunt and fish.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Liberty Baptist Church by Rev. Russell Sheets.
