Mr. Billie Ralph Phipps, age 79, of Crumpler passed away Saturday at Ashe Memorial Hospital.

James Stirl Eldreth

James Stirl Eldreth, D. July 14, 2012
Mr. James Stirl Eldreth age 87, of Warrensville, NC died Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Westwood Hills Nursing & Rehab Center in Wilkesboro, NC. Mr. Eldreth was born on October 2, 1924 in Lansing, NC to Virgie Eldreth. Mr. Eldreth was preceded in death by his mother and his wife, Nancy Eldreth. Mr. Eldreth was a member of Sugar Tree Baptist Church. He served in the US Navy during WWII. Mr. Eldreth worked at Thomasville Furniture for many years.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at 11:00 am at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jim Greer, Rev. Fred Greer & Rev. Lloyd Day. Burial will follow in Miller Cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, July 16, 2012 at Badger Funeral Home.

Thomas Brackett Little, D. July 13, 2012
Mr. Thomas Brackett Little, age 88, of Jefferson, passed away Friday, July 13, 2012 at Margate Health and Rehab.

Graveside service will be held Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at 2pm at Ashelawn Memorial Gardens with Masonic rites.

The family will receive friends Monday, July 16, 2012 from 6-8pm at Boone Family Funeral Home.

Mr. Little was born in Ashe County on Wednesday, March 26, 1924 to the late Monte Estel and Cordia Mae Bare Little. He was a past master for the Ashe Masonic Lodge, and a member of Ashe Shriner Club.

He was also preceded in death by his wife Wayne Erica Rader; and a son Tom Little.

He is survived by three sons; Mark Little of Jefferson, David Little and wife Janette of Jefferson, and Dan Little and wife Marty of Clemmons; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Zylpha Lewis Vanover, D. July 13, 2012
Mrs. Zylpha Lewis Vanover age 79, of Creston passed away Friday morning, July 13, 2012 at her daughters home.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 16, 2012 at 11am at Boone Family Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Roark and Rev. Eugene Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the Vanover Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 10-11 am one hour prior to the funeral service.

Mrs. Vanover was born in Ashe County on Thursday, July 21, 1932 to the late Vinson Arthur Lewis and Emma Faye Nelson. She was a member of Pine Mountain Baptist Church.

She was also preceded in death by her husband; John (J.C.) Vanover; two brothers; Robert Lewis and William Lewis; four sisters; Juanita Whitaker, Marie Robinson, Estella Watts, and Clara Sturgill.

She is survived by one son; Charles Vanover of Creston; one daughter; Nancy Carol Jones and husband Rev. Galvin of Grassy Creek; two sisters; Tressie Winebarger and husband JC of West Jefferson, and Mary Blanche Osborne and husband Lenson of Monticello, GA; four sisters-in-law; Ella Mae Lewis of West Jefferson, Draxie Lewis of Creston, Zell Lewis of Creston, and Ella Rea Vanover of Creston; one brother-in-law; Dewey Vanover of Creston; Caregiver; Lisa Eremita of Grassy Creek; a special sister; Ruth Smith of Mooresville; three grandchildren; Amy Jones, Julianne Jones, and Robert Jones of the home; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Robert Homer Williams, age 84, of West Jefferson, passed away Friday evening, July 13, 2012 at Margate Health and Rehab Center.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at 11:00am at Boone Family Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Shepherd and Rev. David Lyalls officiating. Burial will follow in the Perry Family Cemetery with military rites.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 17, 2012 from 6-8pm at Boone Family Funeral Home.

Mr. Williams was born in Alleghany County on Thursday, September 22, 1927 to the late Wilson Williams and Ruby Crouse. He served in the United States Army. He enjoyed working at the flea market until his health no longer allowed it. He always liked to stop at yard sales and go to auctions. In earlier years he enjoyed going fishing and teaching his grandsons to fish. He also enjoyed working with woodcrafts and camping.

He is preceded in death by his wife; Dorothy Williams; a sister; Lillie Mae Norfleet; and a brother; Howard Williams.

He is survived by one son; Wayne Williams and wife Rosa of West Jefferson; one daughter; Sharon Salkind and husband David of Easton, Maine; one sister; Hazel Roebuck of Maryland; four grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Lessie Mae Wilcox Roop age 105, of Whitetop, VA died on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at her home Mrs. Roop was born on May 15, 1907 in Ashe County to William and Allie Stansberry Wilcox. Mrs. Roop was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Wilson Kane Roop.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 12:00 pm at the Whitetop Baptist Church by Rev. Leonard Tenney and Rev. T. A. Pennington. Burial will follow in Whitetop Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday, prior to the service.

Mrs. Roop is survived by:

Mr. Ernest Morgan Crepps age 80, of Jefferson, NC died Sunday, July 8, 2012 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center in North Wilkesboro, NC. Mr. Crepps was born October 4, 1931 in Ashe County to John Merrit and Beatrice Dancy Crepps. In addition to his parents Mr. Crepps was also preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Hope Crepps, sister, Lucy Viers, brothers: Francis, Hobert, Bill & Jimmy Dale Crepps. Mr. Crepps was a member of Glendale Springs Presbyterian Church. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He loved to sawmill and hunt.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 12, 2012 at 11:00 am at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Dee Liss. Burial will follow in Big Ridge Cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at Badger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Doris McNeill Dickson age 86, of West Jefferson, died on Friday, July 6, 2012 at the Margate Health & Rehab Center in Jefferson. Mrs. Dickson was born on March 3, 1926 in Lansing, NC to Gaither and Verna McNeill. Mrs. Dickson was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kent Dickson, son, Kenny Dickson, sister, Helen, and brother, Sonny. Mrs. Dickson loved to read and spend time with her family and friends. Doris was a hardworking person. She was a member of Mount Jefferson Presbyterian Church.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 9, 2012 at 12:00 pm at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Thom Burleson. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.

Mr. William Alford Taylor age 84, of West Jefferson, NC died on Friday, July 6, 2012 at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC. Mr. Taylor was born on January 21, 1928 in West Jefferson, NC to Edward Jonathan and Dora Wyatt Taylor. Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his sister, Louise Burkett.

Mr. Charles Michael Wyatt, better known as “Michael”, age 61 of Mouth of Wilson, VA, formerly of Ashe County died Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Ashe Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 8, 2012 at 3:00pm at Wolf Knob Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Cornnaho, Rev. Mitchell Mash, Rev. Wallace Turney and Rev. Rex Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the Owen Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:30-3:00pm on Sunday, prior to the funeral service.

Mr. Wyatt was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, May 1, 1951 to the late Paul Wyatt and Mable Ham. He loved his dogs Buddy and Dewey. He also attended Wolf Knob Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by two brothers; John Wyatt and Vance Elmo Wyatt.

Mr. Wyatt is survived by his wife Christine Weaver Wyatt; one son; Randall Wyatt of Wilkesboro; two daughters; Martha Mahaffey of Creston, and Michelle Carpenter of Henderson, Nevada; one step-son; Gary Walls of Mouth of Wilson; two step-daughters; Chasity Beck of independence of VA, and Shannon Ellison of Lansing; three brothers; Herman Wyatt of Troutdale, Jim Wyatt of Mouth of Wilson, and Roy Wyatt of Crumpler; two sisters; Louise Houck of Kannapolis, and Wilma Bryan of Boone; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
