John Paul Lewis, age 88, of Boone died Tuesday at Watauga Medical Center in Boone.

Mr. Clayton Neal Bare better known at Neal age 59, of West Jefferson, NC died on Monday, January 21, 2013 at Ashe Memorial Hospital in Jefferson, NC. Mr. Bare was born on April 28, 1953 in Ashe County, to Claude Edgar and Mary Viola Miller Bare. Mr. Bare was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William Howard Bare. Mr. Bare was a member of Howards Creek Baptist Church. Neal was a Professional Land Surveyor, he worked numerous places and was licensed in five states.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Sammuel Shupe and Elder James McNeill. Burial will follow in Riverview Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Badger Funeral Home.

Mr. Bare is survived by: Wife, Paige Albert Bare of West Jefferson, NC, Son, Brandon Scott Bare of Boone, two sisters, Nina Bare and Louise Hartzog both of West Jefferson, also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Jim Benson, D. Jan. 21, 2013

Mr. James “Jim” Fred Benson age 64, of Crumpler, died Monday, January 21, 2013 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mr. Benson was born February 5, 1948 in Ashe County to Virgil Roscoe and Martha Johnson Benson. Mr. Benson was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Junior & Wilmer Benson and sister: Doris McCall. He loved to play on his John Deere Tractor and loved to play chess. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 6:30 pm at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. David Blackburn & Rev. Jack Pugh. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm on Thursday prior to the service.

Arthur Bliss, D. Jan. 20, 2013

Mr. Arthur Edward Bliss, Jr. better known as “Eddie” age 72, of North Wilkesboro passed away Sunday afternoon, January 20, 2013 at Forsyth Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at 12:00 pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lonnie Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Howell-Hill Cemetery with military rites.

The family will receive friends from 11:00-12:00pm on Wednesday, one hour prior to the funeral service.

Mr. Bliss was born in Beckley, West Virginia on Saturday, March 30, 1940 to the late Arthur Edward Bliss, Sr. and Olga O. Bliss Roberts. He served in the United State Marine Corp. during Vietnam. He retired from Greyhound Bus, where he worked as an accountant. He owned and operated a Gun & Archery Store in Winston-Salem. In his spare time, Eddie enjoyed hunting and fishing but most of all he loved his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by all.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Jones Bliss; two daughters, JoAnn Bliss Sanders and husband, Jeff, of Vail, Arizona and Peggy Bliss Reed and husband, Brian, of Tucson, Arizona; five grandchildren, Talia Sanders, of Vail, AZ, Airman First Class Tyler Sanders, of Abilene, TX, Alysha Greenough, of Tucson, AZ, Jamie Ollis, of Millers Creek and Avery Thompson, of Millers Creek; a great grandson, Jeremiah Hills, of Tucson, AZ also survive.

John Severt

Mr. John Neal Severt age 65, of West Jefferson, NC died Friday, January 18, 2013 at his home. Mr. Severt was born January 11, 1948 in Ashe County to Albert Lawrence and Lessie McNeil Severt. Mr. Severt was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Severt worked for the US Postal service for 28 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and was an all around outdoorsman. John always enjoyed making people laugh. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Elder Eddie Lyle and Elder James McNeill. Burial will follow in Mountlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Tuesday prior to the service.

Mr. Severt is survived by:

God daughter: Jennifer Daughtry of Willow Spring, NC, God son: Jeffery Hayes of Boone, 1 Sister: Wilma Brinegar of Fleetwood, NC also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
